Disenchanting in Dungeons in Patch 3.3

Quite a few players were either confused, or concerned about how this new disenchant option was going to work, so Bornakk took some time today to post an explanation from the design team on exactly how it will function.

The good news for those of you that are enchanters is that you're not being replaced by a UI option; it'll only be there if you're there too. If no one in the group can disenchant, then the option won't be available.

As we mentioned in the recent post explaining the new Dungeon System, disenchanting will work a little differently in all 5 player and raid dungeons when patch 3.3 is released. We have seen a consistent pattern where players eventually need very few items from dungeons and they result to disenchanting as much of the loot as possible since those materials that can be obtained continue to have a lot of worth.

When the new Dungeon System is launched, the default user interface will give players the option to automatically disenchant items that they obtain in 5 player and raid dungeons. This option will avoid the hassle of having items picked up by an enchanter first to redistributed later and overall will make the process much smoother.

Also, with the inclusion of cross-realm-instancing in the dungeon system, there will be restrictions on trading items similar to the restrictions that are currently active in Battlegrounds. If the Dungeon System is used to complete a group for a dungeon then non-temporary items will not be able to be traded in the instance. This makes it so items like enchanting materials will not be able to be traded in the dungeon and using the new user interface option will be the only way to distribute disenchants. There will be some exceptions to this restriction though as Bind-on-Pickup items will continue to be trade-able to those present for the kill for a short duration and completely pre-formed groups that don’t use the Dungeon System to form the group will still allow trades.

To maintain the importance of the profession itself, the disenchanting UI option will only be available for groups that have a character with the necessary level of Enchanting to disenchant the items that are obtained.

We are very excited about the upcoming improvements in the new Dungeon System and don’t forget to check out the full preview here for all the details: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=20677771774&sid=1

I don't feel that an enchanter should HAVE to give away their mats. Nobody rolls for the ore, skins, cloth or herbs from mobs and such in instances. If you can't mine, skin or pick it, you don't get it. You would be considered a D-bag for suggesting a miner give the ore away. An enchanter keeping the shards when people hearth immediately is one of the perks of the profession.  Roll greed on the item, then when you win ask the enchanter nicely to DE it and give them a tip. You would DE it IF you could. But you can't.  You tip a rogue for unlocking a box for you right?  Well, you should. lol

@Sorcerer25: I'm sorry that you seem to have had one or more bad experiences with disenchanter player. However, speaking as an enchanter/disenchanter myself, I feel that not all the responsibility falls upon the player doing the sharding.

Hearthing as soon as the final boss is down = BAD HABIT - that is, if one cares about the distribution of loot.

I'll do my best to remind other group members to roll on shards, but it's hard to do when people drop group and use their hearthstone. Honestly, why should I have shard AND then roll for everyone (if there aren't enough shards to go around) and then either a) run around Dalaran to give them or b) if I recall who was in group, spend my money (yes, I am a copper-pincher) to send them in the mail something they couldn't be patient enough to wait for one minute. (Fortunately, I am not a vindictive player and so I do make the effort to ensure everyone receives that which they should receive - even if it reaaaaalllly annoys me.)

I apologize for this rant, but it is an issue that frustrates disenchanters too, and not just non-disenchanters.

Anyhow, as for the new disenchanting rolling option itself, I'm not too great a fan of it. If I'm feeling lazy, well then it isn't bad... but I don't like the idea of shards/crystals possibly all going to one player.

@Sorcerer25: Enchanters that do that are jerks. :) Luckily I haven't encountered someone that did that (or if they did, they realized it afterward and mailed the shards out to the deserving group members).

    Is this something common?

Well, the one down side to the hand-free enchanting is that it is possible for one person to win all the disenchanting mats throughout an entire instance rather than have one shard go to each person. Usually, what a group does now is pass everything to the enchanter who distributes one shard to each person at the end. This new system allows for the possibility that one person walks away with all the shards. Blizz should allow the group leader to select an option that will auto pass on d/es from BoP loot until everyone has received something.

the "good news" is NOT FOR ENCHANTERS, the REAL GOOD NEWS is for the rest of the party, enchanters will NO LONGER BE ABLE TO NINJA THE SHARDS that suppose to be "rolled for at the end", and at the end everyone leave and forget about shards, for countless times that happened to me.

so! for enchanters is actually bad news ! ... REALLY !!!!
