Curse Client 3.0 Release

I just wanted to take out a few moments and let everyone know that friday we released the 3.0 client to our entire userbase. It's been a long time coming, but I feel it fixes the majority of issues people have raised.

Some of the highlights:

  • Redesigned User Interface
  • More accurate addon identification
  • Revaluated Defaults settings
  • More features (including whether or not to use embedded libraries)
  • Numerous bug fixes and stability improvements

Mac Client 3.0 Beta Release!

We managed to get you a mac client beta out on Friday as well! This was a personal victory for me as I'm now actively working on the code for the mac client. In addition to the above changes we are happy to announce that updates are now done through Sparkle (same update mechanism used by Adium, Textmate and many other mac apps).

We are still in beta here as wxWidgets' implementations can drastically differ on mac vs pc, as a result we're working hard to iron out issues, and will be putting out updates all this week until we're at a more stable point.

Known Issues

Upload mistakes

Over the last week we've had a few authors mistakenly upload either the wrong file or files with invalid layouts that have caused the client's fingerprinting to mistake people's folders for the wrong addon.

Two known examples of this are Ace3 and Auctioneer getting flagged as Tournament Realm Spy and epgp. We've fixed it server side however the client won't just 'forget'. You'll need to remove the false match and in some cases reinstall the new correct match.

Mac Issues

  • A crash that can happen on load in the sort routine
  • A soft crash where the client stops displaying data and buttons fail to do anything
  • Menu options being decidedly 'unmacish'

    i have wowmatrix too, bit since the 3.1 patch the client updated only the half of my addons (i hope my grammar isn't too bad :)

    WTF???

    my english isn't so good because im not from america (sorry that) but the download doesn't work again!!!!

    I want to Explain: I go to "All Games" than on the button "Client" i push the button "Download for PC" and start the exe BUT the exe starts my youtbue downloader programm and say "it cant find the file". What should that means???

    Can someone give me the Client wiht E-Mail or torrent???

    Download should be fixed now.  Sorry.

    As far as the mac client, we're exploring the options for future developments.  I can't promise what exactly will become supported and when.

    I am very not pleased with the current mac offering of 10.5 only and Intel only.  Time frame on fixing this is ?

    occasionally getting warnings out of the curse client that i am somehow possibly a former WoW Matrix user.

    FYI, never used it.

    i do, however, install addons from WoWInterface and WoWUI that curse simply does not have (or that the authors have abandoned and no longer mantain on curse). in these instances, i copy them in manually, and either i disable them or the curse client flags them as "unknown addons", all of which seems to work just fine. i also delete and add addons out from underneath the curse client while it is active (followed by clicking on the "refresh" button). but identifying them somehow as installed by WoW Matrix is incorrect.

    i am sensitive to the problems with WoW Matrix. i just want to make sure you don't tar users with too broad a brush. whatever patterns the curse client believes it is detecting, they can occur entirely legitimately.

    Here is an idea .. why not team up with the guys who make WoWMatrix (seeing how their stuff actually works properly across multiple OS and multiple versions of OS, like 10.4.11) instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.

    The new 3.0 client beta version for the mac is not working. When double clicking the curse logo or when trying to download add-ons via the 3.0 beta version for the mac, it will open up the client. please fix
