- About Altoholic
Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic :)
Altoholic is an ACE 2 addon written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one addon. The main feature of the addon is the search functionality which allows users to search their alts' bags or loot tables in an Auction-House-like frame (see screenshots). All this with multiple-realms support

About the addon & the author
I've been playing WoW since the European release, and I used to rely on addons like character viewer to check my alts' inventory, but since it was more or less abandoned and not always stable for me, I decided to write an addon myself and to improve the search feature as much as I could. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do :)
The addon has been in development since December 2007 and is rather stable now. It's not final, there are quite a few things I haven't had time to implement yet, but I felt it was now mature enough for a public release. Please note that this is my first addon, and that English is not my native language.
Features:
- Language supported: English, French and German. Although it's not fully localized for frFR & deDE, it does run well on French clients (my guildmates made sure of this :D). More languages will come soon, I'm using the LibBabble libraries more & more.
- Account-wide data summary:
- Characters' talents: only a summary, not a full buid, I may implement this later on if there's demand.
- Money, /played, rest xp for each character, subtotals by realm, and grandtotals for the account.
- Bag usage: see at a glance which characters should get bigger bags (bag size, free slots and types included)
- Characters' skills: skill summary on one screen, namely the 2 main professions + the 3 secondary skills as well as riding. I may add more if there's demand.
- Reputations: a list of all the reputations of the current realm's characters. You can see at a glance if all your alts are at least honored with Honor Hold if you want to get the new 2.4 blue PVP set. Suggestions on how to gring reputations will be available soon.
- View containers (bags, bank, keyring) of all alts, on all realms.
- Guild banks : You have 10 alts in 10 different guilds on the same server, all of them with access to a guild bank ? Not a problem, you can see them all here. Multiple realms supported.
- E-mail: allows you to see which alts have mail without having to reconnect them. The addon will tell you when mail is about to expire on a character. Threshold configurable (up to 15 days). Multiple realm support as well. Mails sent to a known alt (one you've logged on at least once) will be visible in the addon.
- Equipment: See the equipment of the current realm's alts in one screen. Very useful when purchasing stuff for your alts at the AH. Multiple realms supported. Right-clicking any equipment piece will allow you to find an upgrade, this feature is similar to the official wow armory feature, and is quite performant, even though it doesn't match the accuracy of the official one.
- Options: the option screen is still a bit minimal, I'll add more options along the way depending on user requests.
- Search: the most important feature of the addon, it uses an AH-like frame to display search results. You can either search bags on the current realm, on all realms, or a loot table. The loot table is a table based on AtlasLoot 4.04 which contains only item id's, and therefore keeps memory usage minimal. As an indicator, with 10 alts (+bank) + guild bank + loot table, the addon only takes 2.3 mb of memory. The addon has gained weight since the integration of some libraries, but this will ensure support for multiple languages in the future. I expect to support deDE soon.
The Search menu allows you to find items based on their name (even partial), level, type or rarity, almost like at the AH.
As of 2.4.010, it is also possible to search known recipes.
- Quest Log: See the quest logs of all your alts, as well as an indication of which alts are on a specific quest.
- Suggestions: Currently, only profession leveling suggestions are available when mousing over your current level in a specific profession. Suggestions are based on the leveling guides posted on the official US forums (credit goes to their respective authors). The addon also suggests you where to quest/grind xp depending on your character level.
Suggestions were also added for the most recent factions. More to come later.
- Auction house: You can see which auctions/bids you've placed with an alt without being logged in or being at the AH.
- Professions: You can browse all known recipes in a thotbot like frame (see screenshot).
Known bugs/missing functionalities (2.4.008)
- Missing: In the skills summary, specialization will be added for the 2 main professions.
- Missing: Return mails are not supported yet, but standard mails with or without money/attachment are ok.
To do:
- Search: support an AH-like function for "usable" items.
- Add support for a wishlist/todolist.
- .. a lot more, suggestions are welcome :)
FAQ
Q: Does the addon support multiple accounts ?
A: No, Blizzard prevents this. However, I intend to develop information sharing between users of Altoholic, this will most likely work like gatherer, but don't expect this soon :)
Q: I want to organize my bags differently, can I do it ?
A: No, I don't intend to rework the "containers" frame. It's clean, and its only purpose is to view the possessions of a character. The major feature of the addon remains the search feature. If you want to organize your bags, you'll have to look elsewhere :)
Q: When searching the loot table, some items do not seem to appear in the search results, why ?
A: After every major patch, the player's item cache will be reset, which means that any item that has not been seen yet will not be listed. This is a restriction enforced by Blizzard, just like the items that cannot be seen in AtlasLoot. I intend to improve this in the future.
Q: What is the figure that appears in the last column when searching the loot table ?
A: It's the item level. For those who don't know, the item level is the "real" level of the item, it's different from the level requirement that appears in the item link. The search results are sorted per item level, it is thus useful when searching for upgrades.
Q: Should I get rid of AtlasLoot ?
A: No, certainly not. If anything, the search functionality of Altoholic would be complementary to AtlasLoot, but Altoholic does not intend to replace Atlas & AtlasLoot. I might add some kind of list per boss at some point, but it won't match the quality of Atlas+AtlasLoot.
Q: Do you support all the loots listed in AtlasLoot 4.04 ?
A: Almost all of them. I'm on par with 4.04.01. Some quest items have been removed along the way.
Q: Why are certain items listed more than once when I search loot tables ?
A: Simply because they can drop at more than one place, or because a specific boss drops a quest item that is related. Majordomo's chest comes to my mind for the hunter & priest quests.

- I'd like to thank my guild, Odysseüs on EU-Marécages de Zangar, for assisting me since the earliest phases, thanks guys for everything you've done :)
- Thanks to the wowace community, you've been very helpful and this addon would not be there without the technical answers you gave me (especially Xinhuan, author of BankItems)
- Thanks to all the guys who are behind AtlasLoot, keeping the loot table up-to-date is a tremendous work, and the search functionality of Altoholic would not be what it is without your hard work.

RiZLA saidSchematic: "Gnomish Alarm-O-Bot" appears as "Alarm-O-Bot" in craft Window, hence it always shows as learnable due to the different name.

Thaoky saidThanks for this, I'll see if I can turn this into a table of item id's (the recipes) vs spell id's, that will avoid the localization issue.
Next version is taking its time, I'm quite busy IRL these days.

Thaoky saidThis normally happens in the background, but I'll double check just in case I didn't put the scan at the right place. At worst, opening altoholic and checking the current character will definitely do it.

CYPSYAN saidheya everyone (always the same asking for stuff lol but i love this addon to much :p)
it would be great to have Reputation andequipement in 2 separated Tab since they are comon stuff and not specific to each toon
and what would be great is to have a panel with raid info of each toon (what alt is saved to wich instance (and if possible raid number))
continu the great job thaoky

Thaoky saidHi there :)
Unfortunately, Rep & equipment will remain there, as there's still some room for more tabs, but this room is reserved for future features :P
Raid info is already there, move your cursor over a character's name in the account summary.
Note to all: development is a bit slow lately, don't be afraid, the addon is not dead ;)

robax saidHi, first of all I want to thank you for this great add-on, I could not imagine to play without it anymore. It´s so easy now to find out which alt has materials for crafting in his bank etc.
Now my question: How is it possible to purge the data concerning guild banks? I have some chars which have been in several guilds, and the content of these guild banks is displayed, even after I removed the chars via "delete this alt"... This is very irritating.
If it´s not possible to delete the guild bank data, please tell me how to delete all stored data (removing altoholic and installing it again did not help either).
And, it would be great if you add this as a new feature for one of the next releases of altoholic (right click on guild bank - delete this guild)

Thaoky saidHi,
There will soon be an option to do that from within the addon. I cannot obviously do that automatically when you delete a character since another character may be in the same guild.
Until then, you have to edit the altoholic.lua file that is in the folder /WTF/Account/Your_Account/SavedVariables. Remove the part that relates to the guild bank you wish to remove (be cautious about what you delete, if you're unsure, delete the whole file & reload your characters). I suggest you use a good file text editor. DO NOT USE the standard notepad or wordpad. I would suggest Notepad++ (google it).
Let me know if you need more info :)

Thaoky saidIn the account summary --> characters, right-click the character you want to remove, and select "delete this alt". It's that simple :)

Gendou said... that was too easy. Why did I not try that before?
Well, thank you. And thank you for making this add-on.
It makes finding items and recipes on my many, many alts soooo much easier.

Gendou saidThis is an amazingly awesome add-on, but there's one feature I can't seem to find - how do I purge data from characters I've deleted? I recently went through some mid-summer cleaning and got rid of a bunch of old alts that were clogging up my screens. But their data is still in Altoholic. :(
Is there a way to get rid of them, or do I need to delete the config file and rescan the survivors?

Thaoky saidI'm not sure I'll implement item filtering for things like the hearthstone, but I intend to allow users to filter who should be listed or not (will be useful for guilds) and possibly to choose how they should be sorted.
I'll also add an option for deposits. Next version should be on svn soon, maybe tonight if I manage to make good progress, but no promise.
Edit: the update is now available on files.wowace.com

CYPSYAN saidi hate you for beeing able to go to the WWI :(, the freaking cousine didnt wanted to steale a computer from thre so we could have some fresh data :p
well back to the topic:
-it would be great to add many filter like not displaying who have this item (i mean i know that all my toon have a hearthstone or stuff like that)
to disable the same option from mining deposit
and few other stuff like that

Thaoky said@Protector: I intend to implement an additional pane where bag contents will be seen as one giant bag, but since you'll have the option to choose either the current view or the giant bag view, it will satisfy everyone :)
@Paintstorm: Yeah, attunements .. I wish there was one way to do that, but there are so many attunement types that it's difficult to keep track of it. For instance, if I wanted to find out if a character can access MC, there's absolutely no way to do that, except tracking that the player did enter the zone lately.. but that's not what I want. If at any point Blizzard provides us with API functions to keep track of this (which very honestly, I don't think will happen), you can be sure I'll implement that.
@Cypsyan: Don't know yet what the pvp pane will look like, but there'll be one :)
Edit: I'll be at the WWI this weekend, and going to bed early today, if you post here, don't expect an answer before Monday.

painstorm saidI can't really think of anything that I miss in this addon :)
The only thing I can think of, is something that I missed when TBC came out.
It was the possiblity to see where each alt was in the sometimes very long attunement quest chains (Kara, TK, SSC, BT).
I don't know if it will be equally complicated in WotLK, but if so, it would be nice if you could see where each alt was in the chains. Something like listing all quests needed for an attunement and then showing where an alt is.
