About MyRolePlay

NOTE: If you are upgrading from a really old version such as MRP 2.2.2, you MUST delete your SavedVariables file or MyRolePlay will not function correctly. (Your descriptions will not be saved in this case.)

What is MyRolePlay?

MyRolePlay is an addon in the developing role playing suite named the MyWarcraft Suite.

It allows you to add role play specific features about your character that other users of MyRolePlay can see. Features such as changing your first name, middle name, and surname. Adding a 'title' for your character, setting your character to have a 'role play status', such as "Normal Roleplaying Style" and "In character" or "Out of Character". There are many other fields you can add, such as a long physical description of your character, the emotion your character is showing at that time, etc...

MyRolePlay is also compatible with other role playing addons such as FlagRSP2 and ImmersionRP, though its more advanced communication method currently requires the use of two chat channels.

MyRolePlay is currently in beta version 2.7, but is usable at this point. If you encounter any bugs, please report them to our forums.

Please check out the forums for MyRolePlay at http://forums.moonshyne.org/ - there is the list of features, feature requests, and general discussion.

Press 'C' (the Character Sheet) to access MyRolePlay in game; you'll find the button attached to the top of the character sheet.

DO NOT run MyRolePlay and another RSP-mod (such as FlagRSP2 or ImmersionRP) at the same time. Only one is necessary, and two or more may conflict with each other.

Installation Guide

Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
  - Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
  - WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
  - WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
  - StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
Start World of Warcraft
Make sure AddOns are installed
- Log in
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.

Translations

When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".

TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)

When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.

If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support

WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

Nmyler: Please post error reports on the Moonshyne dev site.

Also, that isn't enough information to track it down; it's saying that MRP_LOCALE_OFTHE_ALLIANCE_FACTION is nil (undefined). That's one of the language-dependent (locale) variables. I need to know which locale (language) your WoW client runs in.

Please delete chat-cache.txt from your WTF folder (to reset your chat settings; if it's *saved* to /1 WoW will try and keep it there) and then try alpha 2.7.42 from the Moonshyne site (it'll be up here too shortly). It should pretty much always be joining channels after everything else (even in extreme cases where you logged out and back in while on a taxi-gryphon); unless for some reason your copy of WoW takes more than 60 seconds to load the addons.

If it's still happening for you, please swing by the development site at moonshyne.org and give us a more detailed bug report, including which language, region, realm, faction, other addons you have installed, any debug/error messages that get displayed, etc; and we'll try to track it down.

You can't edit anything in that box because that's the box which views the target's details (your own, if you're the target); to edit your own details, go into your Character screen (C by default) and you'll find a bar at the top to toggle the extra part of the window; that's where you put your MyRolePlay details in.

i have the latest version

and to be honest, on my first load i do sometimes take over 60sec. Funny thing is I don't join the xtension channel early. anyways, deleted the cache and all is well now.

is there any way i can stop getting the channels like mywarcraftco from jumping into chatslot1? maybe get a join channel delay on that one? It does it every signon for me and i have to log off and relog on again to get it out (unless i want to leave and join them all manually).

Downloaded using Cilent, says its an out of date add on in "Addon" selection seen. When I click on the MP etc icon with the box which pops up, can't seem to write inside these box's for some reason, why?

doesn't seem to work for me, i don't have the color tag and i cannot see all of the info i imput, i can't see other player's info at all neither they can see mine, any help? thanx in advance :)

i have this problem off and on. sometimes it will decide to place the button under my target, sometimes not. It is like it jsut gives up on trying when it wants to.

Is this still being developed? I see in Etarna's profile that she has been active on this day on the Curse website, but there have been no updates and I haven't received a response to my email that I sent her.

This Add On functions properly in 2.4 in so far as I can tell, you simply need to enable the "use out of date add ons" button. I tried it for a little while and the only issue I encountered was FlagRSP2 users couldn't see my descriptions. Interestingly, ImmersionRP users can.

I've recently installed this addon and it looks great, but I can't see the RP info of others who don't use MRP and they cna't see my info....

Initially I did receive a channel xtensionxtooltip2 when installing this addon, but I can't find myself in that channel.
In the other channel that I got with the install (MyWarkraftCo) I do see myself.

Did something go wrong with the install? I used the curse client for that (I use that for all my addons)

I poked into this. A probable solution is to manually leave and rejoin this channel. You will need to also manually mute the channel to avoid being spammed. Also, ensure the checkbox to support thelegacy RSP channel is selected.

I've been using MRP for a while now and I love it, but after having made several changes to my character's description and then attempting to view it via targeting myself and clicking the MRP icon above my portrait, the description cuts off after so long. So, I don't know if this has been asked before, but...

Is there a limit to how long a character's description can be?

and with activated myrpl.. tooltips some names are not displayed in the tooltips.. (german wow) (version 38 beta)

I've uploaded an alpha version - that's ALPHA, people, I'm really not kidding here, I'm hooking SendChatMessage and praying it collides cleanly - to help work around the extra chat throttling measures Blizzard just introduced as an anti-spam measure.

We weren't as badly affected as FlagRSP2 or GEM, but the effect was there, and partially unintentional. I've slowed down the communications by introducing a global 0.5 second cooldown on SendChatMessage before MyRolePlay sends any broadcasts or responses. That might slow the responses down a bit, but it makes it a lot more likely that they'll get there, unless one of your other addons is currently spamming something else of course. :)

This is one of the most awesome RPG mods I've seen and used. I've used FlagRSP2 for a long long time, but now, have made the switch, not only due to more features and options and better integration, but mainly because it is fully being actively worked on.

I just want to add: For those who don't know how to clear their SavedVariables (if you had checked out an earlier version a long time ago, the pc will remember that)

- Navigate to the folder:

--- C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\{YOUR ACCOUNT}\SavedVariables\

--- Find the file: MyRolePlay.lua

--- Delete it.

~

- Navigate to the folder:

--- C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\{YOUR ACCOUNT}\{YOUR REALM}\{YOUR CHARACTER}\SavedVariables

--- Find the file: MyRolePlay.lua

--- Delete it.

((will have to repeat that for each of your characters / realms to make sure there is no file called MyRolePlay.lua within the SavedVariables folders))

Done. Now you have cleared your SavedVariables and can run the latest version without problems. :)
