Installation Guide
- Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
- Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
- Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
- Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
- WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
- WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
- StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
- Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
- Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
- Start World of Warcraft
- Make sure AddOns are installed
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.
Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".
TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)
When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.
If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support
WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

malachidark saidForgot to mention:
Can you make it so we can share friends list between accounts? I have two accounts and it sucks setting up both of them, also my friend wants to copy my friends list because he's lazy. Also, can we share groups please? And comments? I don't like having to organize my friends list into groups on each character and adding all the comments on each character.

malachidark saidHey Zappster you're still updating this awesome AddOn right? I have a suggestion if you are:
Anchor Characters, I don't know if it's been suggested already, didn't look. I'd like to be able to add characters to a Main Character. That way, whenever Bob logs onto his alt it will tell me "Bob - [Alt Name] - Stormwind City" or something like that.
Also, put the people who are online up at the top of the groups. It's kinda tough having a big group and having to scroll to see who's online.
And finally Sub Groups. For example: Business Associates is a Group which has 2 smaller groups - Sellers and Buyers.

Harshmage saidWell, now that we can log in, yes, I've seen just one error with HoloFriends, but I'm not on the computer that had the error. I'll post the details later, when I can.

Zappster saidHi guys,
I have vacations atm and wanted to develop this addon. Blizzard changed a few things in 2.3 that cause errors every here and then.
First of all, I checked the code at wdnaddons.com and found the following line:
name, level, class, area, connected, status, note = GetFriendInfo(friendIndex);
Can annyone confirm, that you'll get a notes function in 2.4?

oXid_FoX saidyes, they add the notes for each friend ;)
of course, by character, not shared on account (if you have 2 character on the same realm & faction, you put a note on a friend with character1, character2 doesn't see this note)

Mortilus saidgot an error:
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f32.../holofriendserror.jpg
this happens semi-regularly, i'm not sure exactly what causes it. Perhaps combat related? But it breaks windows opening, like if it happens, and i open my profession window, and then my character window, my character window will be on top of my profession window

Zappster saidEnable "show offline friends", your friendslist is full.
You can watch the online status of 50 people, so uncheck some unimportant friends ;)

marmaduke saidI've somehow managed to remove the tick from the side of some of my friends names and as a result, they no longer appear to be online, when in fact they are. There does't seem to be any way of putting the tick back in the box. I tried removing the friend and re-adding them but that didn't work either. Do you have any suggestions on how to resolve this please?

marmaduke saidWell I think I managed to resolve this problem - you can't name the group the same as the name of one of the players in that group. Change the group name and it works as it should.

Xivanon saidI really like this addon.
I just have two (hopefully) little feature requests.
1) I would like to share whole groups.
2) If I share a friend I like to share the comment also. (more important to me)
It would be great, if this is possible.

oXid_FoX saidthe comment is already shared... but only the first time, I mean if you update this comment and reshare the friend, the comment isn't updated (so I think the addon does nothing if the friend is already in the destination list)

Garlog saidonly one problem: with the previous patch a "Mute" tab was added to the friendlist window that does not show with this addon loaded.
The blacklist addon also adds a tab next to mute which also is not show with this addon, and it would be nice if it did :)
awesome addon though.
