When I opened my Curse Client to update my WoW addons today, there was a pop up asking if I wanted to download the latest Client Beta. I've downloaded it (but haven't installed it yet), but I haven't been able to find anything about a new Client Beta on the site.
I guess I'm just trying to find out if there is a new Curse Client Beta out before I install the one I downloaded. I would certainly appreciate an answer from an admin about this.
Thanks.
That would be the latest beta, and we're still looking for more testers! It was posted about a bit ago here, as well as on Curseforge.
I downloaded, configured and ran it. It found the same updates as the current Curse Client I use. I was able to add additional games with no problem. It works pretty much like the current one with a few minor style changes. I'll use it for the next couple of weeks as I update daily. I'll post if I find a problem.
Thank you! Glad to hear it. :)
If you do find anything wrong, or want to give any general comments or feedback, please send it to client@curse.com.
Thanks for testing the new Curse Client! This update is more of a UI overhaul. It is going to allow us to add more features for more games, which the old UI wouldn't handle very well.
Thank you. I have installed it and the only thing I don't like about it is the "game header". That's one thing that I personally feel is just a waste of space and programing resources.
Other people have reported this before as well, so I've added a way to toggle the game header by clicking "View" > "Show Game Header".
Enjoy!
Ummmm ....... Yeah. About that.
First, thanks for the option to be able to do that, but........
Maybe you could find a way to actually hide the graphic when you choose not to see it. What's the use in just making the addons list larger but not getting rid of the graphic? I know it isn't as simple as I make that option sound, but, personally, that's the reason I unchecked the "Show Game Header" option in the first place - to get rid of that graphic. However, it's still there. It's just mostly hidden now. Not the same thing.
Because we now have the tabs for My Addons, Get More Addons, etc you wont have the option to totally remove the graphic. Without the graphic, the tabs look out of place, so it'll remain.
While we understand some people will want to just see the most data possible, we also have to balance this with new content and features. We try to give everyone the most control over their Curse Client, somethings can't be changed. We may revisit this down the road, but we have no plans to change this behavior.
In my opinion the tabs look about as out of place as page tabs in a web browser, so I don't see the need for the graphic showing after you choose to hide it. What I DO see a problem with, however, is the fact that you have links on the right side of the header that you have no access to when the header is hidden. You might want to think of somewhere else to put those links so that when the header is hidden you can still have access to them. Perhaps a new menu text for "Links", or some such. IE: File View Tools Links Help
"While we understand some people will want to just see the most data possible" Is not the reason I, personally, chose to hide the header. I just don't see the need for it. However, I also know that you're not going to change the way that the Client looks / acts based on one person's opinion. I just feel the need to express that opinion and I thank you for allowing me to do that and for also letting me know the why's and why not's for what's being done with this Beta Client.
New client beta fails to install on windows 8.
The Curse Client should install fine on Windows 8, however Windows 8 beta has a bug that flags almost all installers as untrusted. When it shows a prompt saying it was blocked, click show More Information, then click Run Anyway.
However, because Windows 8 is in beta, we can't officially support it (Just like all major games do not support Windows 8 yet officially). I have a few computers around the office with it installed and the Curse Client works fine.
my download quits because it says i have file missing in global assemly cache net, framework 3.0.0.0 i cant find this in my windows update packs to download
I did get the beta to work on Windows 8. It's been installed all along.
Problem was
1. I did not uninstall the older version.
and
2. There was no confirmation of the client being installed so I assumed it was not.
What I missed was a new Curse Icon being placed on my desktop, upon clicking this today the beta client loaded up just fine.
Wanted to update everyone - I just deployed a new test version that hides the game art when the header is hidden, instead it displays a dark background that blends better with the tabs.
We want to give everyone the best possible experience in the Curse Client, and to do that we want you to have as much control over your Curse Client as possible.
