So I have been playing Minecraft for about 2 years now and I must say; I've grown tired of it. I know there are endless possibilities in stuff to build but I just feel that the lack of goal has made me lose the motivation to build anything. I have tried mods and stuff to liven the experience up a bit but in the end, mods just became boresome too.

I recently tried playing Terraria to try something else than Minecraft but still something similar and I was amazed. I haven't expected the game to have so much content as it has. When I compared the two I was actually disappointed at how little content Minecraft has in comparison to Terraria.
Three of the major things that Terraria has that Minecraft doesn't have is:

1: Bosses. I know there are the Ender Dragon in Minecraft but it's not even hard to kill. The bosses in Terraria are bigger in numbers but also harder, more rewarding to kill and definitely more creative and better made than anything I have seen in a 2D game before (For the record, I haven't played a lot of 2D games )

2: Tiers. While Minecraft basically just have 4 tiers of equipment (wood, stone, iron and diamond) where diamond is only needed to get to the Nether, Terraria has several tiers of equipment and I haven't even discovered them all yet. The items in Terraria are also more magical, there are several different kinds of weapons (as opposed to just a bow and a sword) and there are a lot of unique items that aren't like any other items.

3: NPCs. These aren't a major deal but I find the interaction with NPCs to progress a clever idea and the opportunity to build up a town with people moving in is great. The way the NPCs tells tips (not only the guide) and helps the player also teaches you how to play whereas Minecraft doesn't have a tutorial except the achievements.

I would recommend trying Terraria if you are getting tired of Minecraft. Have you tried Terraria and if yes do you agree/disagree with me?

Also this was posted in the Minecraft section as I am trying to get some thoughts from Minecraft fans.

TL: DR: I think Terraria has more content than Minecraft. What do you think? Would you consider trying Terraria?

Terraria FTW! I'm super biased though, as I'm an admin on TerrariaOnline.com. Also I've made some pretty sweet adventure maps, you should check out all our great maps here.

But Minecraft will always out populate Terraria, the original of anything is usually really hard to beat. ;)

I'm more Minecraftian than Terrarian. Terraria is supposed to be a sandbox game, yet it's building capabilities is poor to nothing. The only way they try to make up for that is by adding more tiers. After you get the tiers, I had to wait a few months before actually trying it out again, and then quitting before I get past mithryl. With Minecraft, I try to see what I can do with it, what I could make out with, and, heck, even use some Ideas I had for Minecraft to make a seperate game in itself, with similar styled creation. Terraria has a lot of mobs in it, yes, but that's because it's easier to make a platformer than a 3-d sandbox. Pathfinding also isn't hard when it comes to 2-d (and yet the mobs STILL don't try to do pathfinding). Somehow, Mojang actually accomplished this, with an actual AI too. Not just a zombie running away when it's daylight, but zombies, skeletons, etc can hide when the sun comes out, and still try to attack you. The modding capabilities with minecraft is a little free. There have been countless mod API mods in the past where it tries to make minecraft easier to mod with, and giving mods less chance to break each other. That's what I like about Minecraft.
Terraria? Well, I like how it has a number of different weapons to choose from. You have bows and arrows (Crud), the Ball and Chains, which can inflict a lot of damage, Boomerangs (My favorite), Short/Long swords, Chokrums, and even more. They added spells (through tomes), plenty of tiers (where it's an aweful bore trying to find that first iron), and it even has modifiers, which can make your weapons better or worse, depending on what you have. The one thing is, is that the inventory is very small. Especially with the chests. I had to use about 10 chests for at most one stack of each item. While Terraria is a 2-d game, I would expect that they execute an infinite maps even more flawlessly than minecraft, which they have not even begun to plan.

End Result: Minecraft is the better building game, while Terraria is the better tier, mob, etc- based game, and my favorite will always reign supreme as Minecraft.

This is great! Love when things like this are discussed!

@Wulff thanks for the great pro/con list! I must be very honest and admit that I have played neither... I am in a bit of a financial lull at the moment so I cant really afford to buy games, but i like hearing about peoples opinions! ;)  From a financial standpoint - which game would you says requires you to invest the most actual money to proceed? Or are they both about the same?

Put Terraria on your Steam watch-list. About every other month or so it goes on sale for $2.50-$5, but it's normal price is $10.

Minecraft on the other hand will cost you $27. That's a big difference!
