Hey i'm new to the Forums ( First day woo!) and i was wondering if i download an addon pack and then in the future i want to switch to another addon pack if i can add all the addons from the addon pack into one folder in Interface/Addons/Examplefolder and then the next addon pack i wanted i can add in Interface/Addons/Examplefolder2?
With this idea makes me think that Organising addons and addon pack will be much easier and more efficent, but my question is Will it work? I wanted to check first before i move up all my addons and then have to Re-construct my whole Addons Folder
If you download a pack of addons, you can simply leave them in place if you get another addon pack. It's all completely optional on what addons you want to keep. The one caution is to be careful not to have multiple addons all doing the same TYPE of job like having DBM and BigWigs. Skada and recount . . etc
To answer the actual question, no, it won't work. WoW only looks for addons in the folders immediately below the "Addons" folder -- it won't continue down the tree and look for them further down.
Problem; Making Multiple Addon Packs work
Solution; Download your addon packs (Example1, Example2, General HaNor's WoW Essentials, Noobbots healtastic UI) Unzip all these addon packs and prep for manual installl
Save all your addons pack in a folder anywhere (desktop works) give them recognizable names
Whenever you want to use a different addon pack, go to your packs folder, select your pack and copy it's content to your WoW Addon Folder.
(If you delete your interface and wtf folder, log in and then log out, you should be able to manage a clean install)
When you want to switch packs, repeat the above.
After some thought I would like to expand on this idea
The solution to your problem is best served not by addon pack folders, but by the addon manager in the wow character screen
Download all the addons you are gonna use accross all toons and install them all, Then login to WoW, go the addon manager and manage your addons by character, turning on the ones you want, and turning off the ones you don't want for that character, log in to that character to adjust your settings, then log out and go back to the addon manager, select the next toon
Rinse and repeat till done.
Addon Control Panel (ACP) will let you configure addon "sets", and turn sets off and on. It also does other nice things, like let you turn addons (and sets) off and on without having to log out. If you use many addons, I recommend it.
