PetEmote Addon - broken

The addon update that you are offering for PetEmote actually breaks the addon. The lady that was working on it hadn't gone thru Curse in ages, so I don't know where you found that, but it is the opposite of helpful and should probably be pulled. Most especially now that the lady who wrote it has quit and shut down the website where you can get the addon in non-broken form. There's some more detail if anyone is interested in it at, near the end of the thread.  http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4212

"We" don't find anything.  Curse does not update addons or upload files and claim they are updated.  Only the addon authors can do it.  If somebody posted a file to download in PetEmote, it was not a Curse related person who did that.

curse should at least ensure their addons are all up and functioning. i KNOW they only host them..but why host ****?  if the adds broke then curse should remove the link  themselves after all their part to play is maintaining a site where we can find all these great adds right?

so even if the site mods don;t make the damn things they should be a bit more careful as to who they let post here

With close to 7000 addons for World of Warcraft, never mind addons, maps, and other assets for various other games, there is no way possible in a logistical sense to monitor all those addons. Also, most "broken" addons simply require you to turn on load out of date addons and they work fine. If they are truly broken, the sole responsibility lies with the addon author, as it is their software, not Curse's.

What you want is the equivalent of download.com or tucows.com to monitor all their hosted software, none of which they write or maintain. To modify Vampyrate's comment: Not remotely possible.

I'm having a hard time understanding what all of the ire in this thread is about; there is no such AddOn on Curse at all.

  • #8

I wondered too.  When I searched here, I couldn't find it.

There wasn't supposed to be "ire" I was just saying its probably not a good thing to have up there. And, I can't see how the original author would have put it up since she told me herself that she is stepping away from all things WoW....

And, yes, when you look for it, it doesn't show up. But, if you already have it, the client seems to find something it thinks is an update for it. Never seen it do this before now and its really odd. I'm not the only person to find it and have it break their addon when downloaded, also.

Maybe somebody tweaked something on curseforge or wowace and that's why it showed as updated.  And, even on the CC, curse itself never says anything is "updated" or available.  That all depends upon what the authors are doing to it.

I get it. The author of that addon chose not to continue having Curse host his addon, and his last update wasn't a true update: it was just something to let end users know that the addon is hosted elsewhere. The "update" broke the addon because it didn't update the code, only changed it in a way the client thought it was "modified" -- which is why the client keeps thinking there is an update.

To the client, "modified" = "needs updating, but you might have changed it. are you sure?"

I am afraid, really afraid. this addon is lost forever...:(  I had a great time with my hunter with this addon. Unless some one picks it up we have to do with the version we have untill the new expansion. Then it will be really lost for ever....

even the site does not excist anymore :(

From what I'm understanding, it shouldn't be too hard to create a replacement.  Let me make sure that I understand what it did correctly:

    - The player created a list of emotes for their pet.

    - The addon, on a somewhat randomized timer, put out one of those emotes.

Is that it?  Anything else I should know about it before I get to work on making a replacement?  Any special tricks it did, like "knowing" your pet's name or other things about your pet?  Did it have any "default" pet emotes?  If it did, did they vary according to the pet's type?

efindel, if you are still working on making a replacement for this addon, then I have some answers for you.

PetEmote did know your pet's names and used them in all emotes. It did have default emotes for each pet type, such as all cats meowed or roared or purred, while crabs clinked their pinchers, and whatnot. Nothing too crazy. It did however have different "types" of emotes, if you will. One type was just an idle or no combat type, which would include yawning, stretching, purring, ect. Another type was in combat emotes, which included growling, slashing, biting, and other aggressive or defensive emotes. The last "type" was when you fed your pet. It would display something like, "[pet] looks for more food." or "[pet] swallows the food whole!". You could add in %t to your emotes to display a targetted name, as well.

I used this addon for quite a while until I quit for a few months. After I came back, I realized the addon was broken and the original creator's website was no longer available either. Made me quite sad. I would hope you are still looking to make a new addon for all of us.

Hadn't been working on it, since no one had apparently cared enough about it to answer my questions!  Now that someone's actually answered them, I'll see if I can do something about it in the next few weeks.
