GatherMate doesn't "feed" the data. You download it and it has the data already in it, self contained. it is looking at LOCAL data. Just like lightheaded

does for quests. In order to update it, you most download the new releases when they come out. Many mods can tell you what an item is for or for what quest. it started years ago with Reagent Helper/Reagent Data. However, no mod that is capable of telling you what the item is used for actually connects to an outside source.

Well would have been nice but, I guess it the old ALT-TAB soulution.

Like I said.... "Not possible the way that you are hoping for". I knew exactly what you are asking for since this same question pops up every few days. LOL. You use the database clients as an example of communication to an outside source. While it is true that they do communicate by updating the online database with your information they can only do this once you exit the game. There are techincal reasons for this which are outside the scope of this question so just trust me when I say that, No, it's not possible.

Ok i should be more specific on what i meant. When playing WOW you pick up an item and you say what the hell is this item for, so you gotta ALT-TAB out and go to WOWDB,WOWHEAD, etc... and look the item up to determine what it is what it is used for etc...Ok i know that we can export data to those sites to hekp keep the database current. My real question is if we can send data we can get data GatherMate does and i am sure other add-on do also. I am not saying pull the whole database (way to big) but just on the item. What it is, what other places it can be found, is it for crafting, etc.. Maybe it has been done maybe it hasn't???

Not possible the way that you are hoping for. Check out Lightheaded for an addon as close to it as possible though.
