Ah yeah, I remember when that happened to my laptop years ago. I hadn't installed my antivirus yet, thought I'd be okay for at least a few minutes, went on IE for something quick, and before I knew it, I was infected by a worm. That made me learn -real- quick that after a complete system wipe, the first thing you do is install an antivirus program (and to have said program on a CD so you don't have to be on the internet to download it!)

You defiantly are making an illogical claim. I have recount and have suffered no problems. Norton also detects things that aren't viruses if you've been using it for a while. And yes, if you are telling the truth about your computer usage try checking your network logs.

Agreed, i highly doubt that you got a virus from downloading an addon. Viruses can also erase your history, so that may be what happened as well. I also doubt that this computer is for WoW use only, im sure you have music, random bored of wow sexy time with the computer, etc.

It is possible you were the victim of a random port scan hack. Imagine how annoyed I was when I powered on my brand new, never used until that moment, computer, and within two minutes I had 2 worms and one virus, and I hadn't even started IE!!! That was six years ago, but man, that was fast; by the time my computer had loaded to the Desktop, I was infected.

I don't know what caused your infection, but I do understand your train of thought. It seems logical in the conclusions, but again, while

is true, if the client were at fault, Curse would be inundated with complaints, and there would be a hotfix post haste.

Seriously, if you had gotten it from this addon, don't you think thousands of other people would be on here complaining and curse would have blocked it from being downloaded? Oh that requires thought...

People need to be more conscience of what websites you visit. You get these type of infections from visiting un trusted websites (i.e. Gold/Account selling, torrent, hacking, exploit sites) and those of you that say “I don’t do that” or “This is the only site I’ve gone too”…. BULL. I and thousands of other users use Recount and never had a keylogger/virus or had our account hacked.

That being said… what you have is a browser hijacker. It’s been around the web before as different variants before. It tries to get you to purchase the fake software to put more bad things into your computer.

Here’s a site I found that might help you on removing this from your computer.

And please be careful of sites you visit and links that you click on even from those spammers that you see here in the comment sections of the addons or in the forums. Your best protection is you.

You didn't get it from Recount, or any other addon. Addons have no executable code.
