The Chronicles of Spellborn developers really want to spread the word about the background and design of the game. With that in mind, they've released another Developer Journal today. This article, written by Vincent Leeuw, goes into the creation of factions within the world and gives some details on some of the specific factions you'll come across.
Vincent Leeuw wrote:
It's pretty nifty to roll up a new player character, take your first steps upon some unknown Shard, learn how to point your bow in the general direction of (preferably) an opponent and actually hit him with an arrow. In fact, it can be pretty mesmerizing. Maybe even more so, if you do it again and again, with a sword or spell. But it's all kind of useless if you're just shaving off life force of some random bloke, who happened to be within the range of your weaponry. Imagining him to be a part of some smuggler's organization, which was peddling illegal wares into town, now that's already a bit more enticing.
At any rate, it's pretty cool to see developers this interested in spreading the word about their design philosophies for a game. It's not often you'll see this much information being given, so head over to the Game Design Journal: Factions entry and take a look.
