-- FAQ --

Q: Why did you make a Dawnguard version if Dawnguard already has arrow crafting?
A: Several reasons:
1. To rebalance the arrow crafting. Arrowsmith: Dawnguard Edition makes the more powerful arrows a little harder to get, requiring rare or expensive materials to make them.
2. Arrowsmith also adds recipes for Ancient Nord Arrows and Nord Hero Arrows.
3. Arrowsmith also requires fletchings for most arrows and adds several ways to get them.
4. Some players who used the Vanilla Edition asked for it.

Q: Where do I get Fletchings?
A: See the Recipes section below.

Q: How do I pluck Chicken Feathers?
A: Target a living chicken and press your Use/Activate key (E by default) as if you were trying to talk to them. You can also kill chickens and loot the feathers, but the villagers generally don't like that.

Q: Nothing happens when I press the Use/Activate key on a living chicken.
A: There are several possibile fixes:
Fix 1: Leave the area (fast travel) and come back. This will force the chicken(s) in the area to reload with the new plucking script attached to them. This mainly happens when you load a save that already had non-pluckable chickens loaded (eg. loaded it immediately after installing the mod).
Fix 2: Disable other mods that also modify chickens or re-order the load order so that Arrowsmith takes priority. Any mod that modifies the EncChicken actor or ChickenRace race will conflict with Arrowsmith.
Fix 3: One user reported that unsubscribing from the mod and then re-subscribing made it work.

Q: I don't see the Fletchings option at the tanning rack.
A: You need at least one of the materials (feathers) for it to appear.
Reason: It's similar to leather in that there are multiple ways to make leather (different animal hides) so most of them are hidden unless you have one of the materials.

Q: Why do hawks disappear when I shoot them?
A: Your Object Fade/View Distance is too low. Turn it up in the launcher settings or the game settings.
Reason: Hawks are moving world objects rather than normal NPCs/actors. The game replaces the hawk with a lootable object (container) when you shoot it. If your object view distance is low, you won't be able to see the newly spawned object unless you are close to where it falls.

Q: Why doesn't my HUD's equipped arrow count update when I make new arrows?
A: This is a known bug that I haven't been able to figure out how to fix. It's present in Dawnguard's arrow crafting too.

Q: Can you remove the perk requirements?
A: I will not, but you can using the Creation Kit if you want.

Q: Will you add _____ arrows?
A: I will not add arrows that aren't already in the game.
Arrows that are already in the game, but not in this mod (Forsworn, Falmer, etc) won't be added either.
This mod is meant to fit the existing smithing design and not add random things.

Q: Can I translate this mod to another language?
A: Yes, but the mod must be uploaded to Steam Workshop, credit must be given to me for the original version.

Q: Will you upload this mod to Nexus?
No.

    Try this: http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1293370-mod-activation/

I've also heard that using the Nexus Mod Manager disables the Data Files options.

@kratier: I guess you are refering to the "Nord Hero Arrow" recipe instead of all other recipes which only require 5 ingots at max for 50 arrows. Some recipes only require a single ingot for 50 arrows. Maybe you should read the description more carefully.

Or maybe you did miss the considerations that where made in regard to that kind of arrow recipe. Some manufacturing processes do indeed yield a high amount of waste, yes, even in real life. But you surely weren't expecting high realism mechanics from a fantasy game, right?

Maybe you can also explain your anger over mere numbers against someone who creates a mod for the game before the tools to create such mods even exist for said game, which quite honestly bewilders me.

sorry but this is a retarded mod

concept is good, execution is just retarded

"50 Steel Ingot, 25 Iron Ingot,"
    TO MAKE 50 ARROWS

do you KNOW what an ingot is in weight of metal?

do you KNOW how many arrowheads that amount of metal could actually make?

what the hell were you thinking?

at over 1 ingot PER ARROW in requirements, you could make an entire arrow completely out of metal itself

Nord Hero Arrows are the most powerful arrows in the game along side Daedric Arrows. Both are intentionally rare and/or expensive to make.

Don't like it? Change it. There's a tutorial linked in the description.

@ShakiriX: the only problem with that is, even looking at a chicken the wrong way will result in anyone in the vicinity  screaming filthy heretic and trying to burn you at the stake.

The first thing I learned in this game is: Do not. Touch. Other people's chickens.

no seriously, you make a valid point and you can think of even more sophisticated approaches like chicken feather's for low level arrows, hawk feathers for midlevel and hagraven's for ebony/deadric... alas, without the CK, severe bodily harm and or insanity is the least of the challanges you would have to overcome while trying to get anything to work.

Trust me, I tried. I want to be able to craft torches so bad. :(

As another alternative to adding fletchings to the shops how about having chickens drop feathers when killed (this would help those having trouble killing hawks).

  • #29

something probably ate the link to his tutorial, here it is: http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1286593-tutorial-making-new-smithing-recipes-pre-ck/

The link to the 'modding recipes' tutorial didn't work for me.  I was wondering if you'd taken down the tutorial or something, and if so, where else I coudl learn to do this.  I want to make a mod to craft staffs and robes, and your tutorial would be the perfect starting point I think.  Thanks in advance, and great idea for a mod.  =)

can you also make hawk feathers OR fletching bundles available in shops, just saying cuz leather strips are generally available, and i cant kill a hawk for beans, if not, thats fine

  • #26

    Awesome mod C:

How about a 25-arrows-bundle version for those who want to "work more"?

  • #43

Where can i get a Bundle of Fletchings?

  • #25

Samutz, thanks for the great mod.
You can add the ability to make Orcish Arrow and Dwarven Arrow in the study of Advanced Armors perk?

  • #22

So, where's the best place to hunt Hawks and/or Hawkgravens?

Sidenote: apparently when hawks respawn they're invincible, at least intown at solitude and at the trading company docks.

  • #20

I've installed this mod as the readme.txt says, but I´m still not able to craft arrows. I put arrowsmith.esp into data folder and checked it at the "datafiles" option before running the game.

the only thing it does at the moment is translating the names of the arrows into english (playing the german version).

Did you check the various sections of the smithing menu? They're in the Iron, Steel, Elven, etc menus instead of the Misc menu now.
