About Skyrim Better Performance

Fus Ro Dah! You runned oblivion on highest settings? Skyrim only on High or Medium with annoying freezes or lags? This file is for you! You can jump from Medium to Ultra in less than 1 minute!

Quick Update - 3/25/2013

Skyrim Better Performance works now with LATEST version of Skyrim [5 - 7 FPS Gain]**

History:

I was encountering lags on High settings with old .dll file, So i decided to make new one for Skyrim with big succes mostly because the most problems in Bethesda games had same issues that caused FPS drop. Currently im playing on High settings without any freezes or lags etc. Before i used this dll. my auto detect settings set game to MEDIUM quality after repleacing .dll auto detect settings set game to HIGH quality. Also my FPS went up over by 10-15 So this is really very much.

Additional informations:

This works only with Nvidia cards. It allows transparency AA so trees and grass will look much better if you have AA turned On. But i highly recommed to turn off AA and enable FXAA (Better performance)

INSTALLATION!

1. Download file. 2. Make backup of your original d3d9.dll file - IMPORTANT 3. Copy d3d9.dll File to your Skyrim folder. It goes in your regular game folder where Skyrim.exe is located, not in the "data" folder with the mods or other files/folders.

If you placed .dll file in right place launcher will re-scan settings, and you will have to set them again.

Known bugs:

- Launcher Bug - d3d9.dll will change name of your Graphic Adapter in settings from (example) Nvidia GeForce9600GT to GeForce 8800 GS, This really doesn't matter. - Might crash with 2 monitors or more. - Many peoples might get crash with Crossfire or SLI enabled. - Usually (but doesn't have to) crashes with XFIRE possible fix for this - In Xfire go to Tools>options>'game' tab and click on the checkbox "Disable Xfire in game"

UNINSTALLING!

1. It does not change any files! Just delete .dll file you downloaded and place the old one if you maked backup of course if not you will have to download original .dll file for Skyrim or reinstall game.

WHAT TO DO WHEN non-ENB d3d9.dll-based MODS ARE ALSO USED!

Note: this works no matter ENB mods are also present or not. Examples of non-ENB d3d9.dll-based mods: Standalone SMAA, FXAA Post Process Injector.

1. Rename other d3d9.dll to, say, d3d9_other.dll

2. Edit HiAlgoBoost.ini so that the part of [PROXY] section looks as following:

[PROXY]

EnableProxy_d3d9 = true ; Can be used to load Standalone SMAA,... ProxyLibrary_d3d9 = d3d9_other.dll

NOTES:

- Make sure you are running the launcher or .exe shortcut as administrator if you have crash when launching.

- This isn't lowering your Graphics.

- Some peoples asked if it will work with AA turned on? Answer: YES it will work however it works much better with FXAA (More FPS / almost the same graphics quality)

- If you don't have d3d9.dll in your game folder don't worry! Just place my .dll in game folder and if you will want to uninstall it just simply delete it.

- I highly recommend to lower Anisiotropic Filtering because it might cause freezes etc. pretty much.

- Mod might don't work on some Graphic Cards from GTX series and others.

- If you have issues, try updating your official DX runtime first from Microsoft, a quick google search for "DirectX End User Runtime" will get you what you need.

- DX is card/driver agnostic, so it should run on any card, though the particular optimization in this likely favors older nVidia cards of the pre G200 cores, so 9000 and 8000 series. If you have performance issues, instead of using this mod turn off AA and use FXAA. In the game launcher you can find this advanced option. It is a post process (after rendering) algorithm that removes jagged edges without much loss of fidelity or framerate.

UPDATES: 1.1 - Fixed up few things. 1.1 - Supports now Skyrim Latest Patch (Dragonborn)

Enjoy! Meritus aka meritus335.

Works with most Nvidia Cards.

Hey I play Skyrim via the Steam client, but I can't seem to find the d3d9.dll orginal file in my Skyrim folder. I just pasted it in there; will that work?

If not, does anyone know where said dll would be found so I can back it up and replace it? Thanks :)

EDIT: Nevermind! I opened up Skyrim and the launcher had the "automatically set graphics settings" spiel. All is well, and it looks like performance has increased! Thank you!

I used it, it worked wonders. Fixed a problem I had with lighting and shadows that would cause horrible lag. It was especialliy bad indoors near lanterns and such. This fixed it right up. Great stuff!

Chalky - I am completely aware of what a trojan is.  Files are checked thoroughly on WowAce, SkyrimForge, and CurseForge.  Our process is thorough, and this file is not a trojan.  If anything in the code would have been suspect, it wouldn't have been put up.

Of course there is always a 'chance'.  But not only our software, but also the staff members (myself included) at all of the aforementioned sites do our best to have nothing dangerous slip through.  As this was a .dll file, extra precautions were taken.

For the record, these sorts of files always pop up for Bethesda games, and this is nothing new.  Someone will always come out with a .dll fix for performance.

If you have any further comments regarding our approval process, take them to a PM with me.

It's real, but it is ripped straight from the skyrim nexus, even the text is the same.

What the .dll does is spoof the video cards ID to a 8800gs which yields better performance for some, if not most. The same thing was done to make Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas run better. In fact, it is the same .dll I believe. Skyrim is just a more tweaked gamebryo after all.

    @AllJoeHer,

Im the original author of this file, feel free to PM me on Nexus (Meritus), i will reply.

No its not the same .dll others were created for different games, this one is for Skyrim, it contains FaceGen code edited like all other Bethesda Games because it's lagging every their game like hell.

There was a bunch of haters on Nexus, they threatened me with ban because they said this file is stolen, It's been a good few days and still no ban or other problems.

All Skyrim files are being tested before being approved, and we scan everything with virus scanners.  This is not a Trojan, and is a valid performance boost for Skyrim.  Your mileage, of course, may vary depending on your PC specs, etc.

Wishfire - I have the feeling you don't fully understand what a trojan is.

Scanning something with a virus scanner will only tell you if it is a KNOWN trojan.

If someone writes a trojan right now and gives it to you, no virus scanners will detect it because they won't have ever seen it before.

I would strongly suggest not giving such guarantees.  The vast majority of download sites say they do their best to ensure that things are not trojans but cannot guarantee it - this is a far safer stance to take because unless you have seen the source code, you cannot possibly guarantee that it is not malicious in some form.

Also, the original source for this file is probably here:

    http://enbdev.com/index_en.html

Although I've not downloaded this version of the DLL to make sure it's the same and has not bee modified, the dll name is the same and they are both designed to improve performance.

I'm running the DLL after suffering graphical issues on my ATI card.  Before the DLL it ran on "low" on my system, with the DLL it now runs on high, beautifully, without any glitches.  I'm very pleased.

More to the point though, I hope Curse isn't accepting this sort of blatant redistribution of someone else's work as part of their "pay for skyrim addons" competition.  Because that's pretty messed up.

My apologies, after downloading it I see that it is indeed a different file.

Since yours is almost half the size of ENB and I assume both patches are mutually exclusive, can you clarify what benefits this version has if any?

  • #12

Nope, its not ENB Series file.

If some random dll could improve performance without loss of graphic quality then wouldn't bethesda just, i don't know, include that dll from the get go? If it sounds too good to be true...

Considering the explanation with graphics and settings, it seems legit in its performance, but Submitter likely has 0 clue as to what's going on/how it works.

    Me, not downloading it.

I fully know how it works.

Considering he doesn't explain at ALL what this is doing from a technical standpoint, at BEST he copied it from somewhere else without a source, more likely its just a trojan.

Seriously, don't just toss a random dll on a website and not explain EXACTLY what its doing, if not providing source code, direct benchmarks proving your theory, etc.
