If you follow our sister site, AionSource, you probably already know this is coming. Actually, you've probably known it was coming for quite some time since the Korean version of the game is updated far in advance of the Western markets.
Still, part of NCsoft's PAX East 2011 showing was Aion 2.5, the next major update for the game. The update, named "Empyrean Calling" by NCsoft, promises to improve gameplay for "Legions," which are the game's version of guilds found in most every other MMO.
Legions will finally have access to full body, customizable legion cloaks as well as many member permissions options players have been clamoring for.
But the biggest update has to be the graphical improvements. NCsoft is adding more vibrancy and brightness through better lightning technology in the engine. And while it may be more visually appealing, they understand that some players probably won't have the hardware to handle it. To that end, players can choose to enable or disable these graphical changes client-side
On the content side, players can expect the introduction of two new instances, as well as a multi-stage gauntlet instance called "Empyrean Crucible" where players will fight waves of enemies gauntlet style.
No release date has been given for Empyrean Calling, though NCsoft does expect that it will release at some point this year.
