With Aion's free to play conversion on the horizon, NCSoft has started preparing servers for the big transition. With any big move like this, there are undoubtedly going to be a host of questions cropping up. Thankfully, NCSoft has put together a nice FAQ to get players prepared.
First and foremost on the agenda is server merging. As the total number of available servers is brought down, a few different servers will be merged together so that no characters are lost in the transition. Merges will begin on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. After the server merge, players who share the same character name will be given a random username in place of their own as well as a free ticket to change your username to something non conflicting. Since Aion will be keeping the one-faction-per-server rule, if you end up with an Asmodean and Elysean character on the same server, you will be given a ticket to either change the character's race or transfer them to a different server.
When the servers are merged, all of your items and equipment will transfer with your character so no worries about losing your hard earned gear. NCSoft has done a great job with the FAQ, so be sure to check it out at http://na.aiononline.com/ before the March 28th merger date!
