DICE has announced that they will eschew the traditional DLC route of intermittent map packs for Battlefield 3. Instead, the team will be releasing three themed expansions for the game..
Much in the way that they did with Back to Karkand, the games first expansion pack, these new expansions will be released separately and will offer much more than a few maps. These will be full expansions, bringing new weapons, maps, Assignments, dog tags and more that increase the replayability of Battlefield 3 quite extensively. All told, there will be three more expansions for Battlefield 3, the first of which is due out in June and goes by the name Battlefield 3: Close Quarters.
As you may have surmised, Close Quarters is an indoor-themed expansion pack. The maps will be geared towards closer, tighter combat. These maps are geared towards infantry combat versus vehicle-based fighting. As with Back to Karkand, Close Quarters will see new weapons as well as the new maps but DICE is keeping a lid of exactly how many maps and weapons we can look forward to when the DLC drops in June.
Looking a bit further into the future, DICE has also announced Battlefield 3: Armored Kill and Battlefield 3: End Game. Armored Kill is due out in the Autumn and will be totally vehicle based and even includes the largest map in Battlefield history. End Game on the other hand is still being kept under wraps for the time being.
