Heroes flock to online Mecca for Easter charity extravaganza!
Birmingham, 2nd April 2008 – Omega Sektor and NCsoft® Europe are pleased to announce the stunning success of the special Easter weekend gaming spectacular, CITY OF HEROES®: The Ultimate Heroic Weekend, which raised over £3,000 for charity.
The event, which ran from the 21st – 24th March, was the biggest weekend function ever seen at the iconic online gaming venue, with well over 1,300 people attending across the four days. Angela Sewell, City of Heroes Product Manager for NCsoft Europe, commented “We’ve held events before where our online community have come together to make it a special occasion, but this was something else. With the help of some special guests, including Game Designer Melissa ‘WarWitch’ Bianco, signature characters Ms. Liberty and Ghost Widow, and the artists from the Draw the World Together Foundation, we not only put on something that can truly be described as “epic” but, in the process, raised well over £3,000 for EveryChild, Draw the World Together’s chosen charity.” She continued “It would only have been possible to pull this kind of event off at a world class online gaming venue, and that’s precisely what the Omega Sektor is.”
Shaun Hall, centre Manager for the Omega Sektor, went on “We wanted to make this something special and I think we succeeded. The crowds were amazing, with two teams playing “Task Force Omega” non-stop for 24 hours, sleeping in their chairs! I’ve never known anything like it. This was the biggest weekend that the Omega Sektor has ever seen”
The “Task Force Omega” challenge required teams of players starting at level 10 (a maximum of level 15) and completing all of the games six major TaskForces in order. The eventual “Task Force Omega” winners, a Belgian / French team, were made up of seven members, with one playing remotely. This remote player was the wife of one of the team, who had attended the event with his two sons. It seems that the old adage “the family that plays together, stays together” has some truth in it!
