This morning Cryptic Studios announced the next "free expansion" for their popular MMORPG - City of Heroes. The update, titled "Issue 10: Invasion" sees the return of the Rikti, who are bent on destroying Earth.
Rikti World Invasion
The expansion kicks things off with a world event in which the Rikti return to Earth with a massive invasion force. You'll be able to participate whether you're in Paragon City or on the Rogue Isles, as the Rikti look to conquer Earth.
Rikti War Zone
This War Zone, targeted for players levels 35-50, is the site of a crashed Rikti mother ship. Here you will find a heavy Rikti presence, guarding over unusual Pylons. The area has been cordoned off by the government to keep the Rikti threat contained, and is only available to select agents through Vanguard.
- New Threats - You'll be able to find new threats in the War Zone; Rikti Pylons serve as multi-purpose warning and attack devices which protect the crashed mother ship. Once enough pylons are destroyed, access may be granted to the ship itself.
- New Inventions - Players will be able to find all-new Inventions available through the Vanguard base in the War Zone.
- New Missions - New Missions will be available to players level 35+ involving the Rikti War Zone, found through multiple contacts, and culminating in players learning one of the darkest secrets of Paragon City.
Rikti Co-op Task Force
A brand new Rikti Co-Op Task Force will be introduced for 6-8 players level 45-50. You'll be able to find the mission given out by the leader of the Vanguard, Lady Grey. Co-op missions team heroes up with villains to continue the CoH story as they work toward a common goal: repelling the Rikti invasion.
