As most of our readers will be aware, earlier this month we announced that Curse.com would be getting a major facelift in the coming weeks. Well, as you can see, the time has come!
Curse.com has re-launched with a brand new design, geared towards providing the content that you want in a cleaner and more simplified user interface. We’re going to be bringing more of the latest add-ons, demos, news, maps and more for the games that you love.
To make things as easy as possible, we’ve put together a guide of all the new features that we think our readers are really going to enjoy.
Updated User-Interface
One of the firsts things you’ll notice about the new Curse.com design is the completely revamped user interface (UI).

To make things as easy as possible, we’ve put together a guide of all the new features that we think our readers are really going to enjoy.
Updated User-Interface
One of the firsts things you’ll notice about the new Curse.com design is the completely revamped user interface (UI).
The new UI has been designed with an attractive modern look in mind, while providing a streamlined user experience in downloading add-ons, game demos and more through a redesigned game filtering system. This allows you to browse addons for more games that you are interested in without having to weed through games that you don’t play.
Redesigned Network Bar
On the top of each page on Curse.com, you will now see the redesigned network bar. This bar is designed to provide a cross-Curse login experience, to keep you connected to all of your favorite Curse sites without having to keep track of a dozen different login credentials. As we launch the new Curse.com, initially the network bar will only allow you to log in directly to Curse.com but as we move forward, we are going to be continually adding support for logging in to other Curse sites that you visit most often.
In addition to providing greater connectivity, the network bar provides an easy interface to manage your account, settings and so much more. Some of the network bar’s functionality includes:
- Streamlined private message system enables you to keep in contact with your friends. The private message system allows you to send messages to multiple users and keep yourself connected.
- The ‘Help’ button is a great asset in connecting you with our Support Team. Everyone needs help sometimes and this functionality will ensure you are never far away from getting answers to your questions.
- Users can change their avatar and edit their ‘My Curse’ page, where you can share information with other users. From here you can manage your favorite addons, view your latest activity, manage your avatars and edit your settings.
The network bar will also be the your go-to location for connecting to other Curse sites, as well as quickly navigating from one site to another.
Streamlined Add-on Discovery
Add-ons are hands-down one of the most important areas of focus on the new Curse.com and we’ve taken great pains to ensure that discovering new add-ons for the games that you play is as easy and enjoyable as possible.
Streamlined Add-on Discovery
Add-ons are hands-down one of the most important areas of focus on the new Curse.com and we’ve taken great pains to ensure that discovering new add-ons for the games that you play is as easy and enjoyable as possible.

In the screenshot above (click to enlarge), you can see how our new add-on discovery works. In the middle of the page is a list of all the games that we have add-ons for, while on the left hand side you can narrow down the list with a genre filter. For example, filtering the results to only display add-ons for MMO’s, you will see a list of games including RIFT, World of Warcraft, Runes of Magic, etc.
In this way, we hope to deliver the content directly to our readers in such a way that you can avoid having to sort through games or genres that you may not be interested in.
Even More Downloads
The team has been hard at work making sure that alongside the redesigned Curse homepage comes a host of new content, downloads and more. This means that we have even more add-ons for a much larger array of games and genres. Additionally, we’ve expanded our download catalog to include demos, custom maps and even full game clients.

These downloads will be continually updated with the latest available content, providing a one-stop resource for all of your downloads. Whether its custom StarCraft II maps or the hottest Diablo III addons, Curse.com will have you covered.
Completely Updated Back-end
One thing that users won’t directly be able to see but that perhaps provides the most exciting change is the completely redesigned back-end of Curse.com.
Our team has put together a totally revamped foundation for Curse.com that provides the best possible user experience in a multitude of ways. The new system makes updating the website as simple as can be, bringing quicker updates and more content to your fingertips. Our new back-end also provides for a better user experience as well as you interact with various sections throughout the website.
Curse Premium Benefits
Curse Premium users have no need to worry, all of the benefits that you have loved about your Premium account will still hold true with the new design and back-end.
For those unfamiliar, some of the features of Curse Premium include:
- Enhanced add-on support in the Curse Client, including faster download speeds, zero advertisements, auto-sync addons across multiple PCs and more.
- Ad-free experience across all Curse sites.
- Access to premium beta key giveaways for the latest games.
- Special avatar frame on Curse.com

If you have any questions about the brand new Curse.com design, please don’t hesitate to utilize the help section in the network bar or email support@curse.com.

*cries* only ONE of my addons that I favorited transfered over. Just disappointed that I have to go and rebuild my list.

NONE of my favorites "survived" the new implementation!
You trashed every user avatar on the site - please fix.
my favorited addons are there but i cannot make them sort by date to see if there are any updates. clicking on the sort by date bar at top does nothing :(
So after this enormous make-over of the site, there's still no way for an author to subscribe to be notified of curse.com comments posted to his addons?
Epic fail...
oscarucb:we do have that functionality, although the link to sign up for it might not be there atm, but i'll look into it for our next patch
netheromen:then thats a bug, will add that to our todo list
oscarucb:as far as i know we arent importing the avatars from the old curse, though that plan may change, if it does, ill be sure to post here

is there anyway to opt to use the old layout, it wasn't broken and was in fact, in my opinion, far more useful?
Oh, this new layout is full of eye-candy but lacks the functionality of the old site.
Thanks
I actually went and added them all back. The only other thing that's buggy is when you click on 'last updated' in your favorites list, the most recently updated addon doesn't pop to the top. I'm not really sure how the sorting is determined.
