IGN has announced some major layoffs across the company this afternoon, seeing somewhere around 10% of the company's staff affected.
In a statement issued to employees earlier today, IGN President and GM Roy Bahat said, “To enable us to continue on this path, and to create the future for IGN we all want, we need to be as efficient as possible in our core business. That’s what makes it possible for us to make aggressive bets on our future, and continue to invest in you – the team that will take IGN forward.' Bahat continued, saying, 'This is never an easy thing to do, and we’re spending today supporting our colleagues and friends.”
The company is moving forward with plans for the future and, as such, had to shed excess weight. IGN has not issued an official statement on today's layoffs as of the time of this writing, so we are unsure of the exact number of employees affected by the decision. It is believed, however, to be in range of 10% of IGN's overall staff.
Today's news is the latest in a string of layoffs at IGN dating back to 2010. Best wishes to the employees affected by these layoffs, doubtless their talents and passions will not go to waste in this growing industry.
