Looking Forward to 2013's Hottest Releases

We saw some massive titles taking off in 2012, and 2013 looks to be no different. We're gearing up here at Curse for another year of incredible releases -- with new tools like Gamepedia and all our sites, you'll never go wanting for information. So, what are we looking forward to? Here are some of the most exciting upcoming games:

Devil May Cry

Set in an alternate reality of the Devil May Cry series universe, players will take on the role of Dante as he navigates the treacherous Limbo defeating enemies.

It starts with Dante recovering from a hangover when he is attacked by a Hunter demon. Dante learns he is in Limbo City, a dreary city that appears calm at first, but transforms into a twisted parody of itself with demons and other monstrosities who frequently attempt to kill him whenever he is seen by the demons. After confronting a demon, Dante meets a girl named Kat who sends him to meet the leader of "The Order", an organization labeled by the press as terrorist. The Order is fighting against Limbo's demons and its leader Vergil expects Dante to join them. While fighting enemies Dante learns he is Nephilim the offspring of a demon and an angel. During the game, Dante is frequently taunted and stalked by the demon Mundus, who seeks to have Dante killed.

The new Angel and Devil Modes will shake things up a bit, giving Dante a speedy scythe and a slow but powerful Arbiter to use in place of his sword, along with granting movement abilities that can stack towards massive combos. You'll be able to play this January, head to http://www.devilmaycry.com/ to pre-order or find out more!

Crysis 3

This legendary FPS series has been the benchmarch for video game graphics with both previous releases, and the third looks to be staggeringly gorgeous as well.

Crysis 3 is a thrilling mix of sandbox gameplay, advanced combat and hi-tech human and alien weaponry that shooter fans will love,” said Cevat Yerli, Chief Executive Officer of Crytek. “Leveraging the latest CryENGINE technology, we’re able to deliver seven unique themes that offer stunning and visually loaded gameplay experiences. We cannot wait until people get their hands on the game.

You'll play as Prophet, who seeks to uncover the truth behind Cell Corporation's motives for building the quarantined Nanodome.  The New York City Liberty Dome teems with overgrown trees, dense swamplands and raging rivers which combine to make seven distinct and hazardous zones known as the Seven Wonders.  You'll see this title come February -- FPS General has more details.

StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm

This expansion to Blizzard's popular SC II will add around 20 missions this March, continuing the story from Wings of Liberty and focusing on Kerrigan, the former Queen of Blades.

Sarah Kerrigan is on the loose. Even without the terrible powers of the Queen of Blades or the might of the Swarm at her command, the former Ghost remains a foe not to be taken lightly. But if the artifact really did set her free, then why is Kerrigan seeking out zerg broods scattered throughout the Koprulu sector? What happened to Jim Raynor? Is she still pursuing her quest for vengeance, or has her transformation given Kerrigan a new purpose?

New features have been added to both the single-player and multi-player campaigns, expanding and evolving swarms, improving graphics, adding new maps, groups, and clans, unmatched ranking, and a leveling system! Head to http://www.sc2mapster.com/ for tons of SC II map downloads and discussion

BioShock Infinite

Infinite is the third game in the BioShock series, taking place in an earlier period and quite a different setting than the previous games.  You will control Booker DeWitt, a former Pinkerton agent, as he attempts to rescue leading lady Elizabeth from the collapsing air-city Columbia circa 1912.

In order to explore the floating city of Columbia, we needed an entirely new engine. To bring Elizabeth to life, we had to build brand-new animation and AI systems. To create wide-ranging indoor and outdoor firefights at 30,000 feet, we had to rethink, rebuild and expand the BioShock arsenal. The only thing gamers can be certain of is this: the rules of the BioShock universe are about to change.

We'll see a March release for Infinite -- stay in the loop over at FPS General.

Grand Theft Auto V

Expected to launch worldwide during spring 2013, GTA V is said to be the most ambitious title in the series so far.

Grand Theft Auto V builds on everything we've learned about open world game design," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "We can’t wait to share it with fans.

The game flaunts a massive world of unprecedented scale and detail set in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California.  You'll explore the cityscape and surrounding areas from the tops of the nearby mountains, to the depths of the Pacific Ocean.

The Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online has been in development for several years and of course is based on the legendary Elder Scrolls series, allowing players to explore the universe with others.  Heading the project is Matt Frior, who has been working in online game development for two decades.

“We have been working hard to create an online world in which players will be able to experience the epic Elder Scrolls universe with their friends, something fans have long said they wanted,” said Matt Firor, game director of The Elder Scrolls Online. “It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years. The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”

Star Trek

Coming to consoles on April 23, 2013, Star Trek will be an action-packed combat game with a stand-alone storyline which continues the adventures of Kirk and Spock as they work together to stop a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy.

Star Trek challenges the boundaries of co-op gameplay with a galactic adventure that gamers and fans have never experienced,” said Tom Lesinski, President of Paramount Digital Entertainment. “Working closely with the Star Trek filmmaking team throughout development, the game is sure to deliver AAA production values, a wide variety of gameplay and all the action you would expect from the hit franchise. This will be the definitive Star Trek gaming experience.

Built as a co-op experience, players will be able to control both Kirk and Spock in a journey across unexplored planets and enemy battleships, armed with the latest technology in weapons and gear. Visit http://www.startrekgame.com/ for more information!
