Ever since we fired up Dishonored for the first time and saw that gleaming 'DLC' section of the main menu, we've been curious what Arkane Studios and Bethesda Softworks would have up their sleeves for the game's add-on content. We were more than content to explore the game's core offerings to start with but now that we've spent a wealth of time in this amazing game world, we were beginning to get curious again. What would that new content feature?
New powers? New areas of Dunwall to explore? New missions? As things would have it, the answer is 'all of the above'.
Bethesda Softworks has revealed plans for the first two of three scheduled DLC add-ons for Dishonored. The first DLC add-on, Dunwall City Trials, doesn't actually expand on the singleplayer story, but rather introduces a series of challenges that players can carry out, challenging their abilities as a supernatural assassin.
Dunwall City Trials, being released in December for $4.99 (or 400 Microsoft Points), will include 10 challenge maps that will test and track your combat, stealth and mobility skills. Ten distinct trials await challengers – including an arena battle against waves of enemy AI, a gravity-defying run of drop assassinations, and a race against the clock. Dunwall City Trials also features a whole new set of achievements and trophies as well as a global online leaderboard that will establish the greatest assassins for each challenge.
The second add-on hasn't been fully revealed yet, but Bethesda gave us a little information. So far, we know that it is an expansion of the singleplayer storyline and follows the story of Daud, the leader of a group of supernatural killers known as 'The Whalers'. This expansion will feature new locations on Dunwall as well as access to Daud's personal arsenal of weapons, supernatural powers (!) and gadgets.
Bethesda and Arkane will reveal more information and pricing on the second two updates as they get closer to the 2013 release dates for that content.
