ArenaNet Unleashes sPvP Updates onto Guild Wars 2 Players

Currently, Halloween is all the rage in Guild Wars 2.  Players are duking it out in costume brawls in major cities, trick-or-treating at astral doors, and more!  ArenaNet wants us to know, though, that all seasonal stuff aside, sPVP is a huge focus for the team.  Some new UI and usability features have been added - let's check them out:

Qualifying Points

QPs, which are gained in paid tournaments, with each person on a winning team gaining 1 point.  These lead to rankings for larger tournaments, allowing you to measure yourself against other competitive players.  Jonathan Sharp had this to say:

Because you must have a full team in order to join a paid tournament and it takes tickets to enter, we know that the best teams will be playing paid tournaments. So while you do compete for better prizes than in free tournaments, the thing you’re really competing for are QPs. Think you’re actually good at competitive GW2? Hit the paid tournaments and prove it. We’ll be adding more features that build off QPs, so once that’s ready, I’ll give everyone another update!

UI Changes

Some adjustments are being made to make it easier to get into sPvP.  The below tournament browser UI now shows the map rotation for a given tournament, plus the rewards:

A quick-launch button update now allows players to join and leave sPvP by using the crossed swords button in the upper left of your screen!  This will also open a control panel showing your stats and character info.

And finally, the scoreboard is a bit more informative, now showing player ranks at the end of a game.  You'll be able to check out just how awesome you are, or on the flipside, become aware of your need for vast improvement.

That's all for this latest update, but ArenaNet swears that this is just the tip of the iceberg!  Custom arenas are incoming, as well as other cool features which are to be announced at a later date.
