While I mentioned that the Empath, the latest hero for Heroes of Newerth, would presumably come out this week, that doesn’t look to be the case. After doing some digging, I found a tweet by s2nome — one of the game designers working on Heroes of Newerth — in which he states that while the Empath is fully coded, she’s not quite ready for primetime.
“Empath’s code was completed today, but as of my writing, has yet to be committed and tested. This unfortunately means we won’t be able to put Empath out this week,” he said. But his mention of her ultimate “doing something no other heroes in HoN or DotA can do” is the most interesting aspect of that bullet point. I really want to know more about her abilities now.
Other notable content from the tweet includes confirmation that they’re already working on at least two more new heroes. “We settled on the hero we’re doing after Empath. Well, it’s either after Empath, or after the hero after Empath,” he said. “It’s going to be a very unique hero in terms of role and playstyle, so it’ll be interesting to see community reaction on release.”
And of course there’s mention of a Scout buff. Or maybe Nome just hates Scout and likes to taunt about any potential improvements to a fairly lackluster “carry” hero.
Disappointment about no new hero this week aside, we should still see a patch tomorrow. Included will be the new Crustacean Kraken, which was previewed in the latest newsletter.
