Remember the “Geomancer” hero? You may not, because it’s been a while since it won S2 Games’ “Design-A-Hero” contest which promised that the winning hero would see implementation into Heroes of Newerth.
Today we have a little more information on the hero, thanks to designer Richard Liu on his Twitter account, @S2Nome. He tweeted about the hero, which he’s personally working on, with a few minor details. For one, the name — at least as of this writing — is going to be “Serqet,” named after the Ancient Egyptian Scorpion Goddess. “I tend to dole out mythological names to all the heroes I work on,” Liu wrote in the status update. “Cerberus, Midas, and Ashtoreth are some of my other heroes sitting in the ‘waiting to be implemented’ pool. Take from that what you will.”
While those names spark up some interesting speculation, Geomancer — or rather, Serqet — is what’s on everyone’s mind right now. And if you were hoping to see her soon, you may want to abandon that thought process. “I am the only one working on Geomancer for now. We have Empath, the previously unannounced hero I mentioned in my earlier tweets, and perhaps one or two more before Serqet becomes the primary focus,” he wrote.
That said, Liu feels that the design is fairly “mature” in terms of the level of quality and how well the abilities mesh together and within the hierarchy of Heroes of Newerth gameplay. The “meta-game,” as S2 commonly refers to it. He also feels that the design of the hero leads to some “very fun gameplay,” and is “very effective and unique.”
