S2 Games today released the latest patch for Heroes of Newerth. This week's update introduces a new hero with a long history -- dating back to the game's closed beta. Perhaps even earlier, though I didn't have access to the alpha test.
The hero in question is none other than Nomad, a hero that was previously only playable with "dev mode" enabled. However, shortly before the release of the game S2 decided to take Nomad out.
Nomad was originally just a hero S2 used to test art and ability code very early on. You could tell that the model didn't have a whole lot of time spent on it, and the abilities made him a fairly imbalanced hero in games.
But players really liked the concept of Nomad, and it appears that S2 did as well. Nomad has made his return to Newerth as of today.
To go along with Nomad, the Goblin Store has received a few new items as well. The Nomaddin alt avatar has been introduced, as has Rosie Engineer -- a female variant of the Engineer hero.
The other big news from the patch is that the Engineer has received a fairly substantial rework. The hero's Tinker ability has been removed from the game, replaced with Spider Mines.
Fans of the Defense of the Ancients hero Goblin Techies will be pleased to know that Spider Mines closely resembles Land Mine. So, while you'll probably never see the techies in Heroes of Newerth, you now at least have one of their abilities.
