We all know that League of Legends is insanely popular, but just how popular was confirmed with some staggering numbers released today by Riot Games. Their numbers have increased 280% since their last announcement in July:
- Four million people now play LoL every day
- 11.5 million monthly active players
- Peak concurrency reaching 1.3 million
- Registered player base of over 30 million worldwide
“It’s staggering to think about the fact that over a billion games of League of Legends have been played since launch,” said Marc Merrill, co-founder and President of Riot Games. “In 2012, we intend to deliver even more for our growing audience.”
The session-based multiplayer online battle-arena game is to enter its second competitive season as one of the top five PC games in North America and Europe. With a record-breaking $5 million dollar prize pool including a global $2 million tournament to finish, Riot Games will crown the best team in the world while providing comprehensive coverage of the whole scene. An all-new spectator mode will allow players to get up-close and personal with ranked games.
