It's only been a couple months since Lord of the Rings Online went free-to-play, but Turbine today released the latest update for the game. This one in particular opens up a ton of content for all players -- regardless of account type -- for free.
For one, the level cap has been raised to 65. Players also receive access to the regions of Moria, Mirkwood, Lothlórien and Enedwaith. Finally, the Legendary item system has been unlocked for everyone. One caveat important to note is that you'll still need to purchase the expansions if you want access to the quests, deeds, instances, classes, etc. within each specific region.
That's just the tip of the iceberg for this update, though. It also includes a completely revamped starting experience for Ered Luin -- both the Dwarf and Elf areas -- to bring the gameplay more in line with the stories. You'll see many new sights as the landscape has been altered so that it matches visually with the story. Thorin's Gate is less pleasing to the eye, for one. And it all culminates with an epic new Skorgrim's Tomb instance.
The update also adds in a new "Tasks" system which allows players to complete repeatable tasks based on existing trophy drops, with new deeds and rewards introduced to go along with the system. You'll have access to 250 tasks, for free, starting at level 8.
The final major inclusions in this patch are the updates for the Lore-master and Rune-keeper classes. You can find the full release notes over on the Lord of the Rings Lorebook, here.
