Paradox Interactive and Arrowhead Game Studios has announced the one-year anniversary of the smash hit indie game, Magicka! To date, the core game has sold 1.3 million copies, with the expansions and DLCs adding on several million units to that number!
The game falls under a sort of 'magical multiplayer massacre' genre, in which you can cooperate with your friends to overcome levels, bosses, and obstacles... or encumber them as much as you like, since friendly fire is an integral part of the game's mechanics.
To mark the occasion, the developers have cooked up a new Magick that will be free for all bathrobe wearing adventurers; the Confuse spell.
Or wait, perhaps I’m confused and the devs said I was going to dress in a bathrobe and they’d cook me. No, wait a second… devs don’t cook people, goblins do. So does that mean the developers are goblins? I’m so confused, who cast this spell on me?! In any case, it’s confusing yet impressive that a small studio of goblins—I mean developers, were able to create such a successful game. We’re not complaining, and we hope you aren’t either, or else we’ll cook you!
Also announced is a brand new expansion to be released late Spring 2012, The Other Side of the Coin. The expansion follows in the footsteps of the highly popular Magicka: Vietnam, with objective based level progression, new story and brand new playable characters.
Magicka: The Other Side of the Coin lets the player experience a completely new take on the Magicka universe, by taking the roles of Alucart the Vampire and his Necromancers and fight against the forces of good with the purpose of sacking Vlad’s attempt to improve the poor relations between the humans, the dwarves and the elves.
Features:
- Play as Alucart the Vampire and his henchmen, the Necromancers
- New environment of beautiful Elven architecture
- 1 Challenge map, playing as necromancers
- Necromancer introduced to PvP
- Custom objectives and achievements
- Innovative and dynamic spellcasting system with thousands of possible combinations
- Up to four player co-op in all game modes as well as single player option
- Experience the parody and satire of a cliché fantasy world
