Providence, Rhode Island this weekend hosted the culmination event of the year for the world's largest competitive video game league, Major League Gaming. Over $600,000 in prizes and stipends were awarded to top players of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, Halo: Reach, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and League of Legends in a three-day double-elimination tournament.
In StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, 16 year old South Korean Lee Dong Nyung (FXOLeenock) captured the first place spot which came with a prize of $50,000. Following in second and third places were Naniwa from Sweden and DongRaeGu from South Korea.
Team Quantic Next Threat for Call of Duty: Black Ops, including players Vengeance, Mutation, Virus, and Censor, took home first place and $50,000, the second place title going to Team Eon Envy. Third place was awarded to Optic Gaming.
With a massive prize pool of $100,000, the largest of the weekend, Team Instinct took the championship title for Halo: Reach. Players included Roy, Lunchbox, Pistola, and Ogre 2 - Ogre 2 taking home his 5th National Championship. Team Warriors and Believe the Hype secured the second and third places, respectively.
The League of Legends tournament ended with Team SoloMid on top with players ReginaId, TheOddOne, TheRainMan, Xpecial, and Chaox, securing the championship title and $15,000.
