In light of the recent cyber attacks that have plagued everyone from Sony to Bethesda Softworks, we're thrilled to see Sony Online Entertainment taking brand new measures to ensure that the incident that happened in April and May of this year will not be repeated in the future.
Sony Online Entertainment faced an intrusion earlier this year that compromised the personal information of over 20 million users worldwide.
John Smedley, the President of Sony Online Entertainment took the stage at Sony Fan Faire 2011 this year and his first major announcement came in the form of an apology and a pledge for action. Smedley apologized for the inconvenience that gamers suffered during the outage and pledged the companies continued dedication for something like this to never occur again. As a part of the enhanced security, Sony has teamed with Vasco to develop a key fob authenticators that will further security measures on your SOE account.
Everyone on site was given a key fob but if you weren't able to make it to the show, Mr. Smedley confirmed that the authenticator would be available in iPhone and Android applications due out very soon on their respective application markets.
Stay tuned for more details in the near future.
