Ultima Online, the popular MMO, is celebrating its 14th birthday this year with plans of a graphics upgrade in the near future to thank players.
We believe it is more than fair to say that without Ultima Online there would be no World of Warcraft, Rift or Star Wars: The Old Republic and the MMO genre as we know it would be completely different. Released in 1997, Ultima Online changed the way we played video games in a connected environment.
Here is a note from the Ultima Online team:
We would like to thank all of our dedicated players that have played UO over the years to make it what it is today. In the past 14 years we have had over 2.6 million players enter Britannia, we have brought together a lot of good friends and even several marriages, and we look forward to helping make even more.
In the upcoming months we are working on redoing the art to a high rez art, the first part of this will be the terrain in the next publish, so keep your eyes open for a new look.
