Sony Online Entertainment has posted a blog update on the official homepage for PlanetSide 2, their upcoming massively multiplayer first-person shooter.
PlanetSide 2 is a direct sequel to Planetside, a game that revolutionized the way we player FPS games in the massively multiplayer space. PlanetSide 2 has been generating excitement for the past year or so since SOE announced the game during their annual Fan Faire event last year.
Today, the team has unveiled The Liberator; a massive, armored gunship that can be piloted in PlanetSide 2. The Liberator has mid-range armor and some pretty heavy firepower, but moves quite slowly which will definitely balance the ship. The Liberator features some intense weaponry options, including a 150mm cannon, 30mm gatling gun and a pilot-operated forward facing nose cannon.
The Liberator is an armored gunship capable of wreaking havoc on ground forces. The primary weapon on the Liberator is a downward facing gun emplacement operated by a passenger. This emplacement has several different options such as an armor devastating 150mm cannon or a shredding 30mm Gatling gun. The pilot also operates a fixed forward nose cannon.
While less effective than the primary weapon, the pilots weapon can engage from a farther distance and both weapons used in conjunction can be even more devastating. While it has medium armor the Liberator is slow and particularly vulnerable to enemy air superiority fighters.
