Curse $15,000 Skyrim Modding Challenge!

Introducing the Curse $15,000 Skyrim Challenge!

Love the Elder Scrolls series and can’t wait for Skyrim?  We do and we’re looking for mod authors to help us in making creative, useful, and imaginative mods to play with after the game launches!  With the new skyrimforge.com, unleash your creativity with loads of development tools meant to streamline your mod-sharing process.

The first 35 uploaded Skyrim mods that meet our approval guidelines in each of the four main categories, will earn some phat loot to line the pockets of their authors!

Mods must be uploaded to skyrimforge.com by January 31st, and meet all criteria established by Curse moderators.

The categories and money rewards are as follows:

That’s a total of 140 mods that can potentially earn some cash!  Want to enter more than one mod?  No problem!

But wait...We’re also going to give an additional $3,000 to the author who creates the best mod, uploaded between now and January 31st, and voted the winner by Curse staff!

On or around February 3rd, we’ll announce the grand prize winner and highlight their mod to the community as a thanks for all their hard work and dedication!

Head over to the Skyrim section of Curse to download the world's first Skyrim mods! For full challenge terms of service, visit this link.

I don't want to be a negative nancy here, but I think this is silly. Valuing quantity over quality is stupid. If it is a race to be first, then how can you get anything of high quality? Don't you expect us to just copy paste something, change 1 thing and upload it for cash?

I understand that "creative, useful, and imaginitive" is a restriction, but without clear guidelines it will still make it into a race that will produce lots of crap.

In my opinion, you should only give away money for stuff that is good, like $500 each for the top 5 dungeons made in 1 month, $500 for the top 5 nps, $500 for the top 5 items, etc.

For now I will stick with tesnexus, I don't like the way you are starting things off...

    Hi, StarcraftScientist!

We agree! We certainly want to see quality mods. Our guidelines are in our terms of service over here and our judges will have an eye on quality.

If we find that the deadline is just too short we'd certainly be open to extending it. We are going to keep an eye out and if in a week we decide that the deadline is just too short to make quality mods, we will be extending it.

    Thanks very much!

Is there no category for scripting mods?  Tons of the best mods for Oblivion add no visible content, but rather modify things in the background:  Duke Patricks combat mods, Hunger/sleep mods, and loads of other script mods out there.  Not to mention the one I was going to submit is a scripting mod. 8P  The two I mentioned might apply to the Character category, but I could imagine lots of other scripting mods that don't modify the PC directly that I think should be considered.

Hi!  Thanks for your comments on this. :)  Hunger and sleep, under the current categories, would technically fall under a Character mod as they are adding things to the player characters.  There's also the User Interface section which would take care of things like a No Fast Travel mod (like from Oblivion).

Long story short -- we support scripting!  It's just that there should be a category it fits into. :) If not, please let us at Skyrimforge know, and we'll take care of it for you ASAP category-wise!  We've got mods dedicated solely to the Skyrimforge queue to get things like this taken care of!

A great way to kick-start a Skyrim modding community on Curse!

Sooooo... With no modding tools out. yet alone the construction kit, how are you expecting these mods to be made? >.> It's silly to create this competition before the CK is out, especially with there not even being a release date.

Furthermore, by the time the kit does come out, say a week at the EARLIEST, that only leaves really 4 weaks to mod the game. Your requirements are asking for people to make mods that would take months to create. This isn't even taking into consideration that mod creators will need to LEARN how to use the new engine and kit.
