In sad news, this morning, Curse has learned that Adam Adamowicz of Bethesda Softworks has passed away. Adamowicz worked as an artist on several games in his career, most notably Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, both published by Bethesda Softworks.
Adamowicz was a visionary, simply put, and the passion he harbored for his work are reflected in the gorgeous detail and stunning originality of his designs. Working on Fallout 3 and Skyrim, Adamowicz was part of the team responsible for creating these iconic and inspiring locations, weapons, enemies, items and so much more. It is the subtle things in massive games like Skyrim and Fallout 3 that make these experiences special. If you played Fallout 3, pause for a minute to reflect back on some of that iconic games quirks in art design. Think back on the slight ridiculousness in the home brewed weapons that players wielded; the grotesque and misshapen mutants that you confronted in the Wasteland; all of the 1950's inspired touches in the game that are truly unforgettable.
At the heart of all of this innovation in design was Adam Adamowicz. He didn't build games from the ground up by himself, he was part of a team. But from all of the heartfelt obituaries we're reading this morning, he was an integral part of the team; and some of our favorite games wouldn't have been possible without his vision and talent.
Our thoughts go out to everyone who waws affected by Adamowicz, from his family members down to his fans. If you get a chance, take a look at Adam's blog and enjoy some of his artwork and thoughts.
