It's been half a year since Star Trek Online development was ceased by the now-defunct Perpetual Entertainment, and at that time there was a rumor going around that Cryptic Studios was going to be taking over development.
Today, that rumor has proven true, as Cryptic Studios announced at midnight that they have acquired the license to continue development on Star Trek Online. Even bigger news from the release is that less than 14 days from now, at the annual Star Trek Convention, Cryptic will be unveiling gameplay footage from the game; it will be the first time gameplay will be shown of Star Trek Online, and with it only being six months since Perpetual ceased development, it lends some facts to the rumors that Cryptic also acquired game assets and code in the deal.
Jack Emmert also posted a brief blog to introduce Cryptic's take on Star Trek, and their hopes for the game as they move from acquisition to development fulltime.
We'll be sure to keep everyone up-to-date on the latest news and developments coming out of Cryptic Studios regarding Star Trek Online, so be sure to keep an eye out!
