Tiy, head of the Starbound development team, has announced the joining of Yeti Trunk and Chucklefish Games for a specific purpose - to support the further development of Starbound!
For a while now we’ve been receiving emails, tweets, forum messages etc from people asking us how they can support Starbound. A lot of people have been asking for a paypal address or some other means of donating.
I’ve always said that I wouldn’t like to take monetary donations towards the release of a commercial product. Frankly, I think if you’re going to send us your money you deserve to get something in return.
So, another dev team who happen to be Starbound fans have offered to put their game forwards as a means of supporting the development of Starbound. Finally, I can announce that the developers are Yeti Trunk, with their wonderful game Wanderlust: Rebirth.
Wanderlust: Rebirth is a retro-style, co-op RPG featuring story and survival modes with over 65 awards to earn, 4 character classes, crafting system, devilish AI, alternative endings, 44 enemies, 15 bosses and over 5 years of development. Best of all, it's still actively worked on today!
Chucklefish has agreed to publish this gem on Steam, with portions of the profits going to support both the Yeti Trunk development team and Chucklefish itself, much like an indie bundle.
On July 27th you'll be able to head to Steam and buy a copy at an introductory price of $7.50, with a four-pack hopefully available as well. You can also go to http://www.wanderlustgame.com/ to secure a copy right this minute if you prefer - they will be compatible with one another!
Expected to be released around the end of this summer, Starbound contains a story within a sandbox. While main quests are available, gamers can be kept busy forever simply finding a crew, conducting research, catching rare creatures, and unlocking/customizing facilities.
Starbound begins with you fleeing your homeworld in a space shuttle, just as it’s destroyed by an unknown enemy. With nothing to guide it, the escape pod shoots into space without direction, becoming hopelessly lost in a sea of stars. As luck would have it, the space shuttle makes contact with an abandoned space station and an adventure begins that will take you hurtling across the universe. Starbound contains both quests and story driven missions, buried inside its vast sandbox universe.
