Ever since releasing the amazing first-look trailer for their upcoming game The Last of Us, Naughty Dog has been relatively quiet about the project. We know that the game features a young girl, Ellie, and her travelling companion Joel. We know that there is some sort of plague wreaking havoc on Earth and that Ellie and Joel are struggling to survive, but aside from that we didn't have much to go off of.
In the latest issue of Game Informer, however, Naughty Dog has revealed a little more information on the game, once again leaving us wishing for more.
In the issue, we learn that Ellie is an orphan who has never seen the world pre-plague and thus has a fascination for things like books and CDs. Joel is in his 40's and promised a dying friend that he would look after Ellie, which is how they come to be travelling together. In the trailer that Naughty Dog revealed last December, Joel is carrying out that promise as he struggles to get Ellie out of a safe zone. Joel is a weapons and drugs smuggler who moves his goods between military-guarded checkpoints. The checkpoints serve to protect uninfected areas from the airborne plague that has left the world in shambles.
We also know that Naughty Dog is planning on incorporating a game mode, but we don't know just yet what it is going to be like. The acclaimed multiplayer modes in Uncharted 2 and 3 are some of the most entertaining and enjoyable modes we've played in a while, so chances are The Last of Us will have something just as innovative.
