Funcom has a lot to show off for their new MMO The Secret World at Gamescom this year. Here's a rundown of new announcements:
- The very first raid for the game is being introduced at Gamescom. Set in a devastated NYC, players will listen to the accounts of characters that have taken refuge in the New York subway system, and eventually will battle a monster that towers over the skyscrapers in the middle of Times Square.
- A limited trial has been announced, coinciding with this week's Gamescom show. The offer will be open until Sunday, August 19th, allowing players to visit www.thesecretworld.com, register, and play for free for three days. Players who manage to complete at least 30 missions during that time will be granted an extra two free days.
- Expanding on this, during GamesCom secret society agents clad in their iconic red, blue and green uniforms will also be roaming the show floor giving away scratch cards that enable four day trials.
- The August Update, also known as Issue #2: Digging Deeper, was revealed today and will introduce a rocket launcher, new missions, and in-game plastic surgery and barbers for player customization.
The Secret World blends elements of MMO gameplay with alternate reality gaming and social networking in an original setting with contemporary elements.
Imagine if every myth, conspiracy theory and urban legend was true. Imagine a world where you can become anything you want to be, without restrictions such as classes or levels. This is the premise for The Secret World, Funcom’s newest massively multiplayer online game set in the modern-day real world.
