Nethaera popped by the forums to announce what will no doubt be a largely unwelcome change. Blizzard has decided to remove guild experience rewards from guild achievements, in favor of it being a mirror of the rather pointless normal player achievement system. As a core facet of this guild advancement system, it begs the question of why this was done rather than other more amicable solutions, but perhaps Blizzard has their reasons.
This in the end is going to make the guild advancement system a lot less interesting, unfortunately. It gave a reason to work on the achievements which rewarded nothing else worthwhile, because it actually contributed to your guild. Now those achievements are nothing other than "We wipe a lot so we have to place a bunch of Fish Feasts." Some achievement that is.
I suppose guilds will have to cope with it and simply grind out those levels the old fashioned way -- 3 days per level early on, a lot more days per level at higher levels -- until you finally reach the cap of 25. The guild perks seem a lot less attractive now that you won't have half of them before they're useless for your guild to have.
To say I'm disappointed by this is a grand understatement, especially since age-old broken mechanics are still being abused, and things like this and yesterday's experience gain change are made instead. A better solution would have been to reduce guild experience rewards, cap the amount in a separate pool that you can gain from guild achievements, or just make them count toward the cap. This really does make the guild advancement system seem very neutered compared to what was announced at BlizzCon 2009.
At any rate, good luck to all the guilds out there -- it's going to take you guys a lot longer to get to 25 now. Hopefully something is done about the daily cap on experience to make up for how much we're going to lose over time with this change.
We have decided to remove the added bonus of gaining Guild Experience from Guild Achievements earned. This change will realign Guild Achievements with our philosophy held for normal Achievements, which are intended to be predominantly their own reward (barring the rare exception of special achievements that grant an additional reward.) Previously, the experience reward had been seen as an additional side bonus and not something that should have been significantly skewing the advancement of guilds. During the beta, we greatly increased leveling speed across the board and since most characters were copied from templates, guild experience from Achievements didn’t seem imbalanced. It has become clear that an imbalance does exist and should be addressed to ensure that guilds progress at the rates expected within the daily Guild Experience limits.
For guilds that are currently above the normally possible experience limit, we will be readjusting it back to the expected limit once more. This will not affect Guild Reputation gains at this point in time.
