[Updated] WoW Player Arrested In Connection To WikiLeaks-related DDoS Attacks

Update: I've been in contact with Ensidia, and while Awinee is indeed in the guild, they wanted to clarify that he is not a full-time raider or considered a full member.  He's on the roster under friend status due to being extremely active on the Ensidia forums for a long period of time.

The WikiLeaks controversy, which is sweeping the world, has now spilled over into the gaming realm with word of a member of the prominent World of Warcraft guild, Ensidia, possibly being arrested on suspicion of cyber attacks on a public prosecution office, according to Reuters.

The attacks are purportedly being carried out by WikiLeaks supporters, including the 19-year-old Hoogezand-Sappemeer resident who goes by the name Awinee online.  Included in the charges is suspicion that the man was urging others to join in on the cyber attacks.

The attacks carried out were Distributed Denial of Service attacks, all focused on what cyber activists believe to be "foes" of WikiLeaks, Reuters said.  Awinee is also suspected to be involved in a Friday attack on the online payment firm Moneybookers.

If convicted, involvement in denial of service attacks can carry up to six years in prison in the Netherlands.

We'll be sure to provide further updates as this story develops.
