About two weeks ago Blizzard provided a preview of a new feature for the Mobile Armory: guild chat functionality. It's now available as part of the Mobile Armory for iPhone and iPod Touch, under the World of Warcraft Remote service.
While Remote is an optional subscription service, Blizzard is currently opening up the guild chat feature to all Mobile Armory users as part of a free preview. This free preview will be in effect for an undetermined time while the service is rolled out to all realms.
Once the free preview ends, it will become part of the subscription service. For $2.99 a month you'll be able to enable the subscription features of World of Warcraft Remote, including portions of the Mobile Auction House, as well as guild chat.
The features Blizzard has introduced with this new service are:
- Read and contribute to your guild’s in-game chat channel in real time
- Participate in one-on-one conversations with members of your guild
- View the members of your guild who are currently online
As of right now, this feature does not work with your friends list. While you can participate in tells, the person whom you are conversing with must be a member of your guild. Whether or not Blizzard plans to expand this feature to work with your friends list is unknown, but it's certainly one of the more hotly requested additions for the chat functionality.
To get started, you can download the Mobile Armory from iTunes. It's important to note that as of this writing, the remote guild chat is only available on Fizzcrank and Lightbringer.
For those of you who dislike iOS devices, Blizzard also mentioned that World of Warcraft Remote will be coming to Android, and that they'll have details on that in the near future.
