Blizzard Entertainment has announced some major changes in the way that trial accounts work with players who are new to World of Warcraft. Previously, trial accounts were limited to a designated amount of time and after that period was up, new players needed to start paying in order to continue playing.
Now, however, things will work a bit differently. World of Warcraft will be free to play for all new players, but with a level cap applied. New players are able to fully enjoy all that World of Warcraft has to offer up until level 20. At that point, if you've played the game and made your way up to level 20 and enjoy what Blizzard is offering, you are given the chance to purchase the game and set up a subscription to continue ranking up past 20.
This will give new players a free, unlimited chance to see what World of Warcraft has to offer and make a very informed decision on whether the game is right for them in the long term. When they reach level 20, players will be able to purchase World of Warcraft and the expansion, Burning Crusade, for $20. Additionally, if you already own the standard edition of World of Warcraft, you are able to now receive Burning Crusade for free.
