Grimtotem Spirit Guide no longer tamable, repair costs

Hunter: Grimtotem Spirit Guide no longer tamable (src)

Grimtotem Spirit Guide can no longer be tamed but those who have it will not have it removed by Blizzard.

"Through a hotfix we have recently removed the ability to tame a Grimtotem Spirit Guide. Players who have already gone through the trouble of taming the creature will be able to keep them unchanged. This hotfix only removes the possibility to tame this creature from here on.
The removal of the spirit guide has been debated within design discussions for a while now as to what impact the pet and its precedent has on the game.
The unintended nature of the taming, the undead status of the guide, appearance of the wolf in relation to the feel of the hunter class, and the complex processes of taming were all issues touched upon and discussed.
Ultimately the discussions brought us to the conclusion that this should not be a permanent addition to the pet selection available to hunters; however, those that have already tamed them should be allowed to keep them due to their efforts in obtaining one."

Plate wearers, repair costs and upkeep costs (src)

"While there is some flavour aspect (plate takes more effort/materials/time to repair than cloth, for example) associated with the difference in repair costs for each armor type, the primary reason for the difference relates to overall class upkeep.
Each class has an upkeep cost, which includes things like purchasing reagents, food and water, etc...
While a cloth wearer may spend less in repairs than a plate wearer, he will likely spend more money on things like reagents.
Note that its not important for all classes to have completely equal upkeep costs. The goal is simply for each class to be fun and burden free."

I think people are more pissed off that Blizz with the move showed that they cannot be trusted in what they say.

First they say: "Sure, we goofed up making it both tamable and a beast, despite knowing both these flags had to be set for a hunter to be able to tame it. But we'll keep it like this cause it's fun to see the effort people actually put into the game".

Then they say: "Blow us. We said before we would keep it, but we changed our mind. Sucks to be you if you didn't get it."

I'm fully counting on them to go even further to piss off people and in the future say something along:"Yes, we said you could keep it, but who cares. We don't. Go tame a different pet cause we're forcing this pet away from your hunter so you ca't keep it"

No. There's alot of us that don't really have faith in what Blizz says anymore.

Yeah, I really love how they said it would stay tameable, and then they just go and hotfix it and say nothing at all. Way to go back on what you said. They should have put more thought into it when the problem first arose instead of saying one thing, then deciding later that they're gonna change it anyway. That's pretty lame IMO.

"The goal is simply for each class to be fun and burden free."

Sometimes I wonder where they come up with this stuff. Having to pay more money to repair is neither fun nor burden free.

ya because reagents costs make up the 5g minimun diffrence between cloth and plate.... please, what i pile of BS.

that reason is about as on par as why druids shapeshifting removes snares but shamans ghostwolf does not.

    Because plate wearers don't spend money on reagents...and food...and water...oh wait Paladins...^_-

Not complaining, but you could come up with a better reason Blizzard :P

"It's a bad move by blizzard with other MMORPG's on their way to a soon release it is now in question how the Wrath of the LichKing will make a impact on blizzards players, this is pure example of how to lose customers."
yes, i COMPLETELY understand why somebody would cancel their subscription because 1 pet is not tameable anymore, its not like you have 1 month to tame it anyways , sure i want the pet also, but im not gonna cancel my subscription over it.

hey, mr i think im awesome cuz i can make something up.
when WoW first came out they were ONLY expecting 600,000 people to play, the 9 million people "rolling their faces across keyboards" was not expected, that meaning you.

Orginal Post about this pet in has been DELETED. I still have a record of it

    3. Re: Is taming Grimtotem Spirit Guide intended | 29/11/2007 13:35:38 UTC
    Hi Fierce,

While this feature of the Grimtotem Spirit Guide wasn't exactly intended, it was agreed by the development team that this is a fun use of in-game mechanics, and we therefore have no plans to address this issue - it will still be possible in future for everyone who wishes to tame this NPC to do so. :)

I hope this alleviates your concerns!

    Issuntril

I would of linked you the source but like i said Blizzard deleted it after the hunter community found this out.

This was not mentioned nor anyone was told about this hotfix at all. Blizzard is still deleting posts on it with angry customers venting their frustration on how this was dealt with.

There was no announcement it was hotfixed untamable and players were under the assumption it was going to stay tameable.
It was uncalled if blizzard actually announced this hotfix I doubt they would of got such the player reaction as they did now.

It's a bad move by blizzard with other MMORPG's on their way to a soon release it is now in question how the Wrath of the LichKing will make a impact on blizzards players, this is pure example of how to lose customers.

"The goal is simply for each class to be fun and burden free."

Orly, I could have sworn your goal for this game was to have 8 million people rolling their faces across keyboards, with absolutely no fun involved.

I could care less about some gaseous wolf.... I just wish Blizz would undo the pets back to before, when they were ALL unbalanced. I miss each pet having uniqueness.

  • #12

Blizzard sure likes to nerf fun. I was looking forward to getting that ghost wolf when my hunter hit 70.

  • #13

Sorry, looks like it already happened. =/ oh well. Was good while it lasted.
