Ice Block becomes trainable

Big news for Mages -- the Ice Block becoming trainable changes talked about recently, will not be coming in 2.4 -- they'll be coming in 2.3.2! Eyonix posted about it this morning and that's not all being added for Mages. Cold Snap will be moving up into the place of Ice Block -- with a reduced cooldown -- and a new talent called Icy Veins will be in the place of Cold Snap's original spot. Icy Veins is an activated ability with a 20 second duration, 3 minute cooldown that reduces casting time by 20% and increases the chance for chilling effects to freeze the target by 25%.

Mana gems are getting some love as well -- Conjure Mana's Rank 6 version will restore 1800-3000 mana and will have 3 charges per conjure, rather than the current 1 charge.

Cold snap will be moved to Ice block's position in the talent tree and its cooldown will be reduced. As a side note, it will no longer reset the cooldown on fire ward. Moving in to Cold snap's spot will be a brand new ability called Icy Veins. It's an active ability, lasting 20 seconds and has a 3 minute cooldown.

    Ever thought of Ice Blocking while a nice PoMPyro is heading for your head? This simply is a very nice improvement for non-Frost mages, for both PvP and PvE uses.

    Clearly Chiper, you must not fight any decent mages. Skilled ones will use Ice Block to blow YOUR cool downs. They wait till you pop your good skills, and then they ice block out of them. Removing DoTs, Fears, etc. And they can cancel it on their own, not giving you the 10 seconds to react to it. Do not underestimate this, it is incredibly powerful in the hands of a skilled player.

    not that funny... are u saying fire mages cant use any ice spells? are u saying arcane mages cant use any fire or ice spells? are u saying that feral druids cant cast healing spells or balance spells, they are feral after all. a spec is something you go more indepth in, not an "only" thing.

    Your thinking of Ice Barrier, Ice Block is on a 3min cooldown untalented.

    With a reduced cooldown on coldsnap combined with Icy Viens it means they can pop the WE & IV for a huge amount of sustained DPS. After the WE has gone OOM pop Cold Snap and repeat, in 3 minutes the combo should be ready again and a bit after coldsnap will be back up.

    In a 10 minute fight its possible for you to gain +40% haste (20% faster casting) along with the supplemental DPS the WE provides 5-7 times.

    How does Ice Block make mages harder to kill in PvP? They're permenantly locked in place without the ability to move or cast... just wait for the block to dispel and pummel them. Odds are this will give you time to get a couple other guys to gang up on the poor mage.

    Somebody's bound to mention cooldowns, so I'll address that. Ice Block is, what, 20 seconds? The only cooldowns that could help is Frost Nova and Ice Shield, which is still a Frost Talent.

    All this will do is make it easier for Arcane & Fire mages to survive in PvE groups, and considering how much threat they cause this is a very good thing.

    for all you people saying this is a bad change... PVP is not the only thing in wow, my mage gets his ass kicked by alot of other classes... and i can kick their asses too, it all depends on your skill, there are going to be noob mages that anybody can kill them. it all depends on skill, if u complain mages are too hard, get a different tactic! these people complaining are really annoying "omgggggg <class> is gonna be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo overpowered!!!!!", pvp is all about skill.
    kickass change to mages too, ice block will be really helpful to fire mages and arcane mages, but frost ftw.

    Are they serious? I now have even less of a chance at beating a frost mage -.- Increased cast speed is the last thing frost mages need and giving PoM pyro mages the chance to ice block if I somehow don't die in the first 2 seconds is just wrong. I won't even get started about how 3 charges per mana gem is balanced in arena either.

    This sucks. Hard.

    It's nice to see they're making it easier and easier for a Mage to wax a Priest. How about making it possible for a Priest to get off a heal or DD spell BEFORE being interrupted by every other class in the game?
