Community Watch - WoW Edition

There is a lot going on in the MMO community, so much so that this week's Community Watch is going to have to be split into multiple segments. Today's is a World of Warcraft edition; others will follow throughout the week, with an overall recap on Fridays from now on. First off, I'd like to congratulate subz3ro on winning The Daily Quest's Banner and Avatar Competition. Every single submission I helped judge was excellent, so it was very hard choosing the winner. From here out, The Daily Quest will be using that banner for their blog posts, which is a testament to subz3ro's talent, as well as something to bring familiarity to TDQ as a whole.

Speaking of blogs, let's get down to business on the things going on over at the Curse Blogs! If you don't have one yet, it's easy to create one, so go ahead and join in on the fun!

Curse Blogs

  • Flisher's Curse.com case mod is finished. He posted some great images of this awesome mod in one of his latest blog entries titled "My Curse.com Case Modification - Part 10". Head over and share your opinion on the mod. Me personally? I want one for myself!
  • Skinnable introduces himself to the blogging community here on Curse in "And so it begins...".
  • After digging in and getting himself comfortable, Skinnable shares his thoughts on the Mage class, and his experience thus far in "What is a mage?"
  • That female night elf may not be who you think it is. Matticus touches on this in an entry that covers a recent stalker issue that originated in World of Warcraft with "WoW! Stalkers! Grr!"
  • Indelible is back after an unfortunate account bug that kept him from posting, and takes a look at the progress Blizzard has made with small-scale raids; more specifically Karazhan and Zul'Aman, in "Karazhan and Zul'Aman - A Fixed Mistake?"
  • Evertras toys around with an Arcane talent build, if only momentarily, and talks about it in "Into the Great Unknown".
  • Another new blogger in the past week who has contributed great content: Celathil introduces himself and goes over his experience as a raider, both pre and post-TBC in "Raiding Pre and Post BC".
  • Skinnable comes back to tell us about an old duel/BG mate who has gone on to bigger things on a new server in "Surprises?"
  • Matticus talks about raiding with his Priest in "Raiding with an Alt character".

The blog section isn't the only thing of note to highlight this week. There's also a lot of activity outside of Curse, some of which may be lost in the frenzy that is the MMO world. Here's a quick recap of everything going on around World of Warcraft!

Would you take back the time you spent on MMOs? There's a great discussion going on over at the Fires of Heaven forums about just that topic. Head over and join the discussion to share your thoughts!

World of Warcraft

Last week Drysc posted a new official Community Spotlight. This latest spotlight covers a cool new player-created website called the WoW Reputation Calculator. Give it a try; it pulls your data from the Armory and displays a list of everything you can do to raise your reputations, even telling you how many times you'd have to perform each quest/kill/instance run to reach the next reputation level.

The official forums have some great posts; Evertras suggests Ice Block be trainable, Lolaan provides a Cat Druid DPS Spreadsheet, Mootar takes a look at the current state of PvP Paladin heals and Conquest (Alliance) raids Illidan with Temporary Insanity (Horde). Well ok, not really, but they sure did stumble onto a fun instance ID bug.

World of Raids has you covered for all of the WoW community news. Whether it's the first Illidan kill in China or multiple 2.3 PTR coverage articles, including a 2.3 PTR Encyclopedia, World of Raids has you covered. Head over and take a look!

The Elitist Jerks forums are a great source for serious discussion and theorycrafting amongst World of Warcraft players. Check out Design a mentoring system, Raiding beyond Hyjal/BT and Thesis: How the loot tables work for some of the latest threads popping up.

If you're curious about all of the types of pets that can be found in the game, head over to Warcraft Pets. It's a great resource for anyone that wants to "catch 'em all" when it comes to non-combat pets.

For fishing fans, check out El's Extreme Anglin', the most comprehensive World of Warcraft Fishing resource on the internet. Whether you're just getting started, want to find out all the equipment available, or you're ready to go for the big one - Mr. Pinchy - head over and take a look; there's a lot of very helpful information available.

What kind of Community Watch would we have without some comics?! Check 'em out - the first two are from the official Comic Contest Honorable Mentions, the third is from LFG comics.

Finally, the video of the week. This is Skinnable's old BG running mate from their Dark Iron days. He's moved on to Tichondrius now and goes by the name Neilyo there as well. Be sure to click through on the title to comment on and rate it!

var FO_57 = { movie:"http://dev.curse-gaming.com/static/flash/flvplayer.swf", width:"500", height:"350", majorversion:"7", build:"0", bgcolor:"#FFFFFF", allowfullscreen:"true", flashvars:"file=http://videos.cursebeta.com/stream2/premium/802.flv&autostart=true" }; $("#flvplayer_57").click(function(event) { UFO.create(FO_57, "flvplayer_57"); $(this).unbind('click'); });
