Season 3 Weapons & Honor gear, 2.2/2.3 info and more

Blue post recap time for today; the CM team is at it again on the US forums. Not much activity on the EU forums today, but nevertheless, we have to keep you updated! I'm sure everyone is getting tired of hearing about Death Knights by now, so I left that out of the topic, but read on for some comments on Death Knight lore.

Drysc clarifies Season 3 weapon rating requirements.

Drysc wrote:

You will only need a specific rating to purchase the items, it won't be required for their use. If you hit 1900 (for instance, this isn't a final number by any means) you'll be able to purchase and use the items, and if you dip below that you won't be able to buy them, but you'll be able to continue using those you've already purchased.

We're also well aware that this could potentially encourage players to join higher rated teams for a chance to obtain the items, and at later time we'll be discussing the solution coming that will prohibit it.

And a bit of Q&A from Drysc in the same thread.

drysc, hopefuly u check back, when you guys release s3 arena gear, will there be new honor points gear as well? and upgrade to the current "veteran's" set? im asking because i assumed there wont be any new honor points upgrades because i didnt see it mentioned anywhere. would like some clarification.

Drysc wrote:

We've stated on numerous occasions that Season 1 items will be available from honor vendors, and this does include weapons.

So you're confirming 1900 is the "magic rating?"

Drysc wrote:

Nope. Sorry, I was using it as an example not the final rating.

Nethaera answers whether 2.2 and 2.3 are being merged together.

When I logged onto test server I spawned in Ghostland next to the new Instance. I have tried to chk it out but couldnt due to Horde was camping the entrance but I thought it wasnt going to be ready until 2.3.

Since it has been delayed, maybe 2.2 will be added to the 2.3 patch.

Anyone know?

Nethaera wrote:

No. The two patches aren't going to be merged together. There will be a separate testing phase for 2.3 when it's ready.

Where did Eyonix go?!?! Nethaera provides the answer.

Nethaera wrote:

He was out of the office for a bit. ;) Every now and then we're allowed out. Be afraid.

Bornakk on new titles being added.

Bornakk wrote:

C'thun Eye Vanquisher?

We do plan to add more titles in the game in the future but not necessarily for just defeating end game bosses. We plan to keep them somewhat rare like they have been so far.

Nethaera on last names.

Nethaera wrote:

It's a possibility for the future. We just don't have any specific time frame or plans for implementation as of yet.

Thank you for asking so nicely for it though! ;)

Bornakk on Death Knight lore.

Bornakk wrote:

This was discussed at the Lore & Quest panel at BlizzCon a little while back. The idea is that a character goes to become a Death Knight, is trained as a Death Knight, but then realizes they doen't want to go through with the evil acts they are instructed to perform. So the character finds a new Alliance or Horde home who accept them as a necessary evil (like warlocks) to help them fight their enemies.

BlizzCon happened at the beginning of August and the story continues to be worked on so things could change quite a bit from now until the Death Knights are implemented. Details on this and many other things will become available as we get closer to launching Wrath of the Lich King.

Bornakk shoots down the idea of having to randomly fight... bosses... when entering a PvP Arena.

Bornakk wrote:

Instead of fighting another team, you get to fight waves of Monstrous Kaliri, congratulations!

...

We have no plans at this time to implement a change like this to arenas.

Bornakk on Season 3 gear.

Bornakk wrote:

We have stated that there will be a minimum rating required to use the season 3 weapons. The rating required has not been finalized and any additional details will have to wait until we are closer to the start of the new season.

Keep in mind that we do plan to give at least two weeks of advance notice for when season 3 will begin so everybody can be prepared.

Bornakk on Season 3 Honor gear, from the same thread.

Bornakk wrote:

When we are closer to launching season 3, we will have more details on the items that will be purchasable with honor.

Bornakk on whether Honor and Arena points will be reset for Season 3.

Bornakk wrote:

We didn't reset honor or arena points between seasons 1 and 2 and it worked just fine for everybody, so we plan to continue this when season 3 comes around. At this time we also have no plans to reset honor or arena points in any future patch.

Nethaera on Draenei shoulders on the PTR.

Nethaera wrote:

This wasn't an intended change and is expected to be fixed before patch 2.2 goes live.

Nethaera on Season 3 ETA.

Nethaera wrote:

We don't have an ETA for this as of yet. We do plan to give at least two weeks of advance notice to everyone so that they can be prepared for it.

In other news, there's a new trailer available on the official website called "Lament of the Highborne." Head here to download it. The trailer features Sylvanas singing the song "Lament of the Highborne" which was added with World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. Horde players can hear her sing this by completing a quest involving a locket given to her by her sister - Alleria Windrunner.

var FO_83 = { movie:"http://dev.curse-gaming.com/static/flash/flvplayer.swf", width:"625", height:"380", majorversion:"7", build:"0", bgcolor:"#FFFFFF", allowfullscreen:"true", flashvars:"file=http://videos.cursebeta.com/stream2/premium/721.flv&autostart=true" }; $("#flvplayer_83").click(function(event) { UFO.create(FO_83, "flvplayer_83"); $(this).unbind('click'); });

And finally, the BlizzCon 2007 Highlights video is available for download on the official website.

that video can only be started by paladin's on horde it seems.

Hmm I've been playing for years and don't have a level 70 ^_^

    Cute:)

Seeing what Blizzard is doing at the moment, the cap is probably going to 1700-1800. Obvious theorycrafting, but it pretty much just clears out the real "i play ten games for epics" people. It doesnt really prevent anyone who is serious about it to get it.

  • #5

Could be "dangerous" though. Seeing as how replacing a player at that lvl can mean disaster. And say you had a losing streak due to this, you would lose 150 points. So, if blizz uses the "active player" requirement as you described, I don't think you will see lots of people doing this. Which is a good thing. Rarity over commonness.

  • #6

$x. I think they will solve it by being an active player for lets say 10 matches before you can buy the weapons wanted. Just having the 1900 rating would be silly; That would give the better arena teams a way to gain some easy money by 'selling off' their ratings.

  • #7

So far it only goes for the weapons... But tbh, I love it. This means that PvP players actually have to make an effort to get the sweet items. Being a PvP player myself (ex-hardcore PvE'er) I think this is a good move, making it more rewarding to a PvE'er compared to PvP.

  • #8

Looks that way. Meaning...again most of us won't see it unless its in the dressing room. Hopefully they use some d1/d2 set models for it though. Dreadmist was one of the coolest looking sets ever.

  • #9

so dose this mean that u have to have an rating insted of point system to get gear?
