2.3, Death Knights, Heroic requirements and more

The Blizzard forums have a lot of useful info from today and last night, so we compiled all of it to make it easier to find the important things said on the forums. You can check out the entire recap below.

Bornakk on reputation requirement for Heroics

Bornakk wrote:

We have no current plans to remove the revered reputation status as the requirement to get the heroic dungeon keys.

While some realms may have a harder time finding groups than others, there are still people running them that you can group with and I'm pretty sure they really want to get the reputation too. Keep looking for people to team up with and you'll get there.

Drysc on the closed off instance in Stormwind

Drysc wrote:

It's not necessarily "not" going to happen, we just have no announced plans to implement player housing. It's still there because, eh, who knows. Also, it brought you to the forums, and we've been hoping to say hello to you since you started playing.

Drysc on Hunter pet leveling rate improvements

Drysc wrote:

We have plans to adjust how quickly a hunter's pet will level if there's a large gap between it and the hunter's level. However, it's still just a plan and not something we've implemented and thus are not ready to discuss it.

Drysc on changing the Mote/Primal system

Drysc wrote:

Overall though we're happy with the mote/primal system, it works pretty well, and aside from the issues I stated of their rarity being unbalanced in some cases, we plan to continue with it.

Drysc on patch 2.3 info

Drysc wrote:

We're currently focusing on the information and release of patch 2.2. All changes coming after 2.2 will be discussed after the patch has been released. There is no shortage of changes in the following patch, and we'll begin discussing them as soon as we can.

Bornakk talks a bit about Death Knights

-Everyone will roll death knight alts because they startat lvl 60, so they have less work to do.

Bornakk wrote:

We do hope a lot of people try out the class, it should be a lot of fun. But we also know that people have their preferred style of play so we don't expect everybody to drop their current character(s) and play the Death Knight exclusively.

-It forces you to master a class in high-level areas where you need to know your class to suceed, and most new Death knights won't know how to play their class at all.

Bornakk wrote:

Just leveling up to reach Northrend will take time and should provide players some great experience in learning the new class.

-You will get less hours out of your death knight alt.

Bornakk wrote:

I'm a little confused here, but are you saying that it's a problem that you can't spend more hours at lower levels?

-Other classes will fall out of favor for alts, because they start at lvl 1, wheras Death Knights start at 60.

Bornakk wrote:

I'm not sure that other classes falling out of favor as alts is really a big deal, but I wanted to clarify that the starting level of the Death Knight has not been finalized, but they will start at a higher level as a level 1 Death Knight doesn't sound quite right.

-The massive flood of Death Knights will clog battlegrounds, making matches extremely uneven (No class variety, so less heals, druid bufs, etc.)

Bornakk wrote:

While a lot of people may make Death Knight alts to try out the class, especially near the launch of Wrath of the Lich King, not everybody is going to level them to 80 or switch them to their main character. Also, both factions will be interested in playing the Death Knight, so any lack of heals will probably go both ways.

-The lack of levels to obtain takes away what makes WoW so fun: Leveling up and gaining new abilities.

Bornakk wrote:

They will still need to level through Outland and Northrend which can take a fair amount of time.

-New players will have to wait months to try a class they may have wanted from the beginning.

Bornakk wrote:

We have not finalized way that the Death Knight will be unlocked yet, if that is what you are referring to.

We have wanted to make Hero Classes for a long time and we feel the Death Knight will be a fun one to start with while adding a great new element to the game for players to enjoy fighting with... and against.

Vaneras talks about surnames

Vaneras wrote:

The developers would very much like to add surnames to the game at some point in the future, but there are no immediate plans for this on schedule.

Forums aren't the only thing, though. The Ogri'la section on the official WoW website has been updated with tips on gaining reputation.

    Dont play Death Knight then.

    Its not rocket sience.

I'm still holding my breath for a Necromancer class. If their focus is on classes of Warcraft 3 then the necromancer is a definate way to lean. Not sure if it would work as a Heroic class or not but it would still stand out over a warlock based on how necromancers in WC3 worked.

I also feel that the unlocking system should be complext so as to keep a flood of DK's out of the game at 60 from the start, because so far it sounds like the Jedi system of old on SWG's. And we all know when those devs caved and made becoming a Jedi easy it put the final nail in that coffin.

Quit whining and/ or Worrying!!! Hero Classes are going to be the same as Normal Classes. They Call them "Hero Classes" because Heros in Warcraft III and such were a Special Class. Grom Hellscream was a "Blademaster" hero class Thrall was a "Far Seer" (which is a Shaman Normal Class).Arthas Menithil was a Hero in Warcraft III and became a Death Knight. (he was a Palladin, but chose to be a Deathnight because he could not DPS when he was a Palladin IMO) But Thats why they are called "Hero Classes" because they were special Calsses for the Hreos in the Game. In later expansions we will have the "Blade master" hero class as well as others.

They are making "Hero" classes because they've realized there is a problem with intrducing new classes while their level cap keeps moving higher and higher.

I've gotten 5 chars to level 70 so far of different classes, and it's something that takes quite a fair amount of time. Most frustrating, when doing this on an established server, is the complete inability to actually do low level instances as the amount of people doing these are close to zero.

This makes leveling feel slower again, as it just feels like it goes faster while you do instances (Especially at lower levels you can easy gain almost a full level or so in one instance run).

The 'real' killer in leveling, though, happens when you get to about level 50. Nobody running the instances at all (as opposed to a few groups at lower level if you are lucky), and the instances at that range being what they are, people won't bother doing them below level 60 (or the average player feels they are too hard), yet when you are 60 there is no reason to do them, as the loot gained from outland is just so much better (Not to mention that you can already quest in outland at 58, and start grinding there as early as 56 if you are really dedicated). The jump from level 50 till you can get to outland is still a killer, though :(

I think these hero classes aren't a very good idea. I mean, what's the point? If they're more powerful than normal classes, then it'll ruin the game for people who prefer the normal classes. If not, why not just make them a normal class instead of all this special 'hero' nonsense?

    See what I mean?

  • #6

well then looks like your gonna have to create one on a different server or delete one. atm there is a max of 9 classes so just delete your double and that will be ur DK :P

What's the point about getting a Hero Class if you can't add any more characters to the realm you're playing on? Blizzard already said they won't increase the amount of characters you can create per realm. I ain't deleting no chars I already have there...

  • #8

I thought it would have been great to have to change a level 60 or 70 Character that you already have into a Death night. This way you would have to level a normal character before you "Go to the Hero side". This would keep the game balanced as you still have to level some character before you attempt to play a high level from scratch. I have seen a number of "bad players" from the lack of knowing how to play their characters properly. This transformation into a death knight would then be the next challenge as you would evolve the character.

I don't mind the prospect of a new class, I think its quiet exciting. However, i do feel another 1 or 2 Hero classes available at WotLK release would "balance" things abit as far as the whining goes, along with the influx that will happen. Most people will want to try one.

  • #10

I think there should be an option of different starting levels for the knight, such as 10, 20, 30... etc up to 55/60. Otherwise there will be an overwhelming influx of Death Knights and unless their gear is unsellable, or only worth a few copper, they will make a cash hog for easy money. Also since all the Death Knight armor is black or very dark, will that mean all plate armor will turn dark or that you can only equip Death Knight Plate? Interesting pondering.

  • #11

I think they should be a little bit more powerful than the regular classes but not too much so they are they "Hero" Class not "God" Class maybe well see god classes in a future expansion, i wonder how long until more hero classes are introduced, hopefully we wont have to wait for another expansion ^^

i remember when the rumors for bc started and besides the new races we were "supposed" to get the spellbreaker class. Wasn't Kael basically a spellbreaker in Warcraft 3? I know all my buds are sayin that spellbreaker or demon hunter will be the next hero class but i argue cause spellbreakers ingame now are like ret pallys and demon hunters ....would be basically a rogue. I'm hopin to see a pandaran or warden type class myself

  • #13

A healer/dps hybrid would be enough since the Deathknight is a tank/dps hybrid. But they wont do that, since even balancing the Deathknight against the other classes is going to make the devs cry. But if theres anyone that can balance it, its Blizzard, whatever people say, Blizzard is king of balance.

  • #14

I think it would be ideal if Blizzard released a minimum of 3 Hero Classes with WotLK a Caster/DPS, a Tank and a Healer.

Im trying the Deathknight sometime. Especially since the current way of "unlocking it" is having a character of a certain level, probably 70, on the account. But definetly not just after release, look at my last post. Warrior + Warlock is too sweet not to test. However. Besides, I think you will have to wait for a long time for a Monk type class though. Any theorycrafting on the next heroclass is bound to epic phailure. The only clue I know are that they have said that "it would be cool to include the heroes from warcraft 3". Considering that they just implemented a tank/dps/(caster) hybrid, a fair guess would be to say something opposite. Warden? Blademaster? Demon hunter? Bloodmage? Shadowhunter? Let the theorycrafting begin?
