From a Danish forum I was able to obtain info regarding the marketing concerned with the release of the next WoW expansion. Alledgely someone involved in making banner commercials for large portals on the internet has been approached by Blizz marketing who wants them to have something ready to be posted from Nov. 1st this year and last until x-mas this year.
Accordingly this should mean that they plan to release the game no later than feb. 2008 and posibly even for x-mas.
I hope you guys are as excited about this news as I am :)
The article I'm linking to is in Danish unfortunately, but this does not change that the OP of the page is giving a 1st hand account of this "news".

I have a friend who works in a media agency that handles banner advertisements for various larger portals in Denmark.
He has informed me that they have gotten an inquery regarding the launch of WotLK in Denmark and running advertisements on Danish sites from the 1st of November until December 24th.
He also says that the expansion is slated to be in store shelves somewhere close to Christmas 2007, with the latest release as late as February 2008.
Personally, I think that this is pretty fast considering It hasnt even been a year since Burning Crusade was launched. But who knows, money makes the world go around and the christmas sales revenue is something everyone wants a piece of!

I've seen a lot of people saying about Blizzards Christmas release date for TBC. If you look at what they said waaaay back before they'd even given a launch date, they were never planning on releasing it at Christmas. They aren't planning on releasing WotLK xmas this year and whilst a lot of you are right about WotLK beta, they rely heavily on inhouse beta teams to do the brunt work. WotLK will be a glorified content patch and that's about it so beta will take no more than 3-4 months. It's possible that a may-june release is coming but I naticipate it will be late q1 2008.
.
Thanks MrPel! I agree that the expansion really isn't all too exciting, however mostly the expansions are for the people that revel in the slow process of gaming. I know it sounds dreadfully boring, but some people are boring. They play this game for various reasons, one of which is how long it takes to "grow up" in the game. This is an alternate place for these people, RPer's that is. For the hardcore PVP and PVE'rs it just adds more flavor into becoming the strongest.
IMHO, i think that the rank system should come back on this one. Just so that there could be a more standard set of "who's who" in the game rather than the arena teams, and twink massacres that happen far too often.
"Who cares when it comes out, its gonna be the same grind and farm shit as it is today, with tier 96 sets somewhere in the future. While there gonna be new next generation mmos out early 2008"
nail, meet head. Er is it; head, meet nail. O well w/e, same diff.
I just agree with this person so much I dunno what to add to it.
I mean how can it be any different? A couple things will be added, joy =/
I bet you will still be grinding factions...5mans..then heroic 5mans...10mans.(set pieces Tier x)...and so god damn on..New Bg and still doing GD AB/WSG/AV to get honor for your new spiffy T1 Arena set, doh more grinding haha. (son of a bitch gd grinding gd it lol)
Sorry I just wish there were more to it =/
The business model and gameplay was fun..then it wasn't...now it's downright painful..I don't play anymore, so no need to tell me to quit or w/e. Just calling it like I see it, albeit simplified for this forum.
I seriorusly wish there were more to it.
GL to you all :P
Well, remember TBC was supposed to come out around Oct/Nov holiday time, then got pushed back during the betas. So, while they may *want* to release the game for Christmas like last year it's doubtful they actually will. :)
akritas as far as I know the other "next gen" MMO, you are talking about, where to be released late this year, but then got delayed to the next year, so WotLK might be released before or even a little after them.
And in MMO's you will always have grind, in Warhammer they even encourage it by giving bonuses for killing the same creatures all over again.
Age of Conan will be very demanding on PC, so don't count on a large number of players early on, Warhammer seams to be more scalable than Conan and certain aspects of gameplay in Warhammer seams to be similar to WoW, so the transition would be easier.
I'm picturing a Feb. 2008 release also. There's no way they'd advertise an expansion this in-depth an entire year + months away. Judging from how quickly BT and Hyjal have been completed by top guilds, it's not difficult to imagine Blizzard giving the more hardcore guilds something to do between now and WotLK. Suffice it to say, the smaller guilds will have their mouth full with a new 10 man in addition to still working up to BT and the like. I think 2.2 will come next week, 2.3 will come some time in November and 2.4 will either merge with the new WotLK tree or be that tree, offering the new 25man as well as the updated talent trees....then WotLK will come sometime in early Feb or so. There's always a possibility that it could be delayed, but there have been no major WoW 'event's since BC was open....BT had been worked on and was pretty much ready for release as well as Hyjal way before they actually were, so all their time has been devoted pretty much to tweaking WotLK and the quests therein - I suspect that 2.3 and 2.4 are more 'ready' than they've let anyone really know as well....at this point, it's to PTRs for 2-3 weeks and then into the game.
Who cares when it comes out, its gonna be the same grind and farm shit as it is today, with tier 96 sets somewhere in the future. While there gonna be new next generation mmos out early 2008
ROFL, thats over a year away.....no way its going to take that long.
There's absolutely no chance WotLK gets released this year. 2.2, 2.3, and 2.4 have still yet to be released. I would count on November 2008ish.
Putting into consideration, upcoming patches that are yet to be released, which also need testing (2.2,2.3,2.4), that WotLK still needs to be completed and tested and with patch 2.3 comes Zul'Aman which then needs time for people to complete or experience it, i doubt February is the release date. Yes, there is less to do in this expansion and that took a year after announcement to be released but this will probably be a few months under a year after announced and is likely to be released in May-ish. Oh and then theres the patch that gives us the 51 point talent tree. ;) But don't get me wrong, im not complaining if its early! :D
And if you go amazon.co.uk they give a January release date!!!!! although Amazon are notorious for making dates up
They have actually been working on this since before TBC launched. I am expecting Beta around late October, early November. When it actually releases will depend greatly how beta testing goes.
if i can calc right about blizz's release for the PTR patch 2.2, 2-3 weeks away and 2.3 november/december so who knows? :P
I was going to write something long and lengthy but what Lythria wrote is bang on the money.
